DD has never had it but I remember it vividly when I had it at age 8. So much vomiting and stomach pain - it lasted 5 days and I was crying so hard through much of that because of the pain. There were many doctor visits in there and I remember hoping the doctor would make me finally feel better at each visit but that didn't happen. Lots of gross green medicine was involved. I remember waking up in the morning one day and it was just completely gone, like I never was so violently sick. It was really bad all 5 days and never got better with each passing day until it was just gone for good.
Your poor baby, I hope he feels better soon. It is not fun and it makes me sad to hear about kids getting this, especially at such a young age.
My children have not had it but I did as a teenager. It was rough but I survived. I don't remember how long each symptom lasted but it was a total of about six weeks before I was 100% well. Some of that time was throwing up, some of it was diarrhea, some was stomach pain, and toward the end it was just stomach irritation when I would eat. I Thor gets well soon.
I thought gastroenteritis was just a really general term for any sort of stomach issue...I could be wrong though. That sounds to me like some sort of bacterial infection rather than a virus because it has persisted.
Maybe try probiotics? They have helped me kick diarrhea before. There are packets you can add to your kid's drink.
It's stomach flu, essentially a viral infection in the gastric system (it can be bacterial but it is less common I believe). This means the body will work to expel anything and everything up or down until it feels the culprits are out.
That being said, 2 weeks is REALLY long...did they consider testing his BM to identify exactly what was causing the illness? They do this sometimes if they think it could be e-coli. My GF, not a baby, lol, had e-coli poisoning and it took 2 - 3 weeks to clear completely.
When we had stomach flu this winter (I think it could have been Norwalk but am not sure), I got it the worst, DH was not great, and DD was only sick for maybe 12 hours.

My fear so far has been e.coli. We're going back into the ped again cause he seemed better for a little while and then it got worse overnight.
They typically will only test if there is a chance it is e-coli. Did anyone else at home get sick?
