I work for a large national nonprofit and one of our longtime employees of 35 years -- moved all the way up to COO and was our interim CEO for a couple of years -- died last night in a car accident near our house.
He had just retired June 30 and was going to stay on part time to work on a couple of pet projects but had 3 new grandkids and wanted to be able to spend time with them.
I work in HR and our workforce will be devastated -- its been on the news and its hitting facebook now. Cannot imagine what Monday will be like.
Sorry for the ramble... I had to put it somewhere....

Thanks ya'll.... a little backstory... when we were adopting our boys in 2004 he and the CEO called me up to the exec offices and told me to go ahead and use our organizations freq flyer miles to fly to Russia to meet and get the boys. My H and I got scared because British Airways only flew to St Petersburg and not Moscow and we were scared about having to change flights on freq flyer miles and so I thanked them so much for their generosity but we had already just paid for it ourselves. He called me back and said "send me your AMEX bill.....we're paying for it"....over and above our organization's adoption benefit... How could I not love my job and my leaders??
I am so so sorry. What a horrible thing to go through. With your follow up (and even the original post) he sounds like an amazing person. You were blessed to have him in your life and I am sure he was a blessing to many others as well. I am so very sorry for your loss.
