Anyone else notice that their kids are more tired during the summer? We try hard to maintain bedtime, but about once a week they have a later night and it seems like they can't get caught up on sleep.
Yep. For us it's because we stay busy with lots of activity. We swim most days for a few hours and do several days of gymnastics camp each week. It wears her out but she loves it. Bedtime during the summer ends up being 15-30 minutes earlier than during the school year. She won't sleep in ever though so there is that.
My DD slept until after 10:00 this morning, but 8:30ish is more typical. We've had a lot of late nights lately. My boys are still up by 7:30 every day, but they've been taking 2+ hour naps.
Mostly we just deal. Earlier bedtime and we plan a veg at home day when needed. Overall though my daughter does better when we are super active and busy. The lazier we are the crabbier she gets. Early bedtime is really key for her. I wish I could keep her up later and have her sleep in but she's up with the sun, always.
When we are home, I'm more lax about watching tv because they sit & vedge for an hour. Normal bedtime when we can. Mostly getting to the pool and staying busy keeps the whining at bay. They start to fight and get crabby at home for too long. For us the pool is just an extension of going outside, we do it almost every day, we have a routine, it's easy & stress free. Bigger outings I would avoid if possible if they're exhausted.
My kids have been going to bed later and sleeping later. I'm trying to get them back on their regular routine but we go on vacation next week and they go back to school the week after we get back. Oops.

For now yes. My ds has been taking cat naps just about every time I drive somewhere more than 10 minutes away. Dds sleep is just a hot mess. Yesterday she fell asleep on the car home from a play date at 4, slept until 6, ate dinner, played and went back to bed for 8pm. She was up at 4am.
We were away for two weeks and the kids slept an hour less than usual which is weird because we were so busy swimming and/or going places and doing lots of walking. We are going away again for the weekend so I'm sure sleep will be a hot mess next week too.
