I am looking for some location and hotel/condo/rental house suggestions for a trip that we are taking with my parents in late September.
Relevant facts: Travelers DH, me, DS (8mo), my mom, and my dad.
We would be open to sharing a condo/house/suite with my parents but would need to have at least 2 bed/2 bath. DS in a crib, somewhere.
We have a wedding in Orleans and college friends are staying in Eastham at a pricey hotel
My dad will drive us to / from wedding festivities
We want to stay for about 5 days, so would prefer to be somewhere "vacationy" but don't want to spend crazy $$$$. I know that the cape is expensive; I'm targeting a budget at appx $200/night (total) for a basic rental house/condo (which looks doable, based on a sampling of places that I"ve looked at). We'll have my DS, so we won't be barhopping.
Eastham doesn't seem very vacation-y, unless I"m missing something. I think that I want to be within about a 15-20 minute drive of Orleans/Eastham.
Where should I target staying? Cities are helpful, hotels / rental home/ condo suggestions are helpful. Budget is a little flexible, but not extremely flexible.
thanks in advance!!
UPDATE: We booked a beautiful rental house via VRBO in Chatham. Thanks everyone. FWIW, I also negotiated our rental cost - and ended up with a 20% discount :-) You don't get what you don't ask for....right? :-) Thanks again for the advice...I'm about to come back and ask for DC recs :-)
Personally I like the Dennis/ Yarmouth area but I am also most used to,the area so that my be a factor. I would think in sept it should be easy to get a rental since schools are back in session. Also it's an affordable area for the cape

I like Harwich and Chatham the best. Lots to do in those towns. Orleans or Wellfleet would also work well, though they are quieter towns. You could always try Provincetown too.
I would pick Chatham - it's the nicest town with great restaurants. But would consider Eastham, Orleans and Harwich for house rentals as they are all close by. Dennis and Yarmouth have more things to do but definitely a more touristy scene. My favorite beaches are in Dennisnthough, on the bay side - Mayflower and Corporation beaches.

We usually stay in Truro but in all honesty, I would stay a little lower on the cape if I had the choice. Besides ptown, there's nothing to do up there except the beach.

I like Eastham, there's not a lot to do right there, but Orleans is a close drive and has more options. Plus, First Encounter Beach in Eastham is nice for littles, and the Cape Cod National Seashore beaches near there are amazing.
