What are you reading?
QOTW: What's your favorite pantry meal? (I'm thinking something you can make when your cupboards are basically bare and all that you have on hand are shelf-stable or basic, staple ingredients.)
I'm currently reading two books Blood Meridian by Cirmac McCarthy it is sooo violent I have to take breaks from it. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. He is a fabulous writer but I have no empathy for any of the characters so I'm not really connecting to the storyline.
I'm also reading the Lies of Locke Lamora which is pretty enjoyable so far.
As for qotd: I think cornbread or biscuits are my favorite I have nothing in the house thing to make.
I'm listening to Mr. Mercedes (Stephen King) since it became available again from my library and I didn't finish it the first time. Really enjoying it.
I'm also finishing HP and the Half Blood Prince so I can start Deathly Hallows in time for the discussion. However, I don't strictly need a re-read to be able to discuss.

I'm reading One For The Money. It's super light but I'm enjoying it. I'm getting a kick out of the lack of technology because the book is so old. Like she bought an answering machine that uses tapes! Lol
QOTD: I usually have frozen chicken on hand so I do a baked chicken breast with equal parts mayo and grated parmesan and panko on top. Another one is cheese and black bean quesadilla.

I'm just over halfway in Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. The main character keeps dying and then being born again. So the story has all these branches of how her life would go if she made this choice vs that one. Occasionally she has strong premonitions about bad things that are going to happen (because she's lived through it so many times before) and does something different to prevent that tragedy, though sometimes causing a different one. It's a really interesting premise and somehow is not repetitive at all. Good novel!
I'm reading The Bay at Midnight by Diane Chamberlain. I'm enjoying it so far. I finished The Royal We and Cinder this week. I liked them both, but felt a little shame when DD1 told me they had Cinder at her school library. I love me some YA, but would like it to be above 5th grade level. Lol.
Pantry food: um, do pop tarts count as a meal? b/c I totally had them for dinner one day this week.
The Old Wine Shades by Martha Grimes. It's one in a series of British mystery novels. It's quite enjoyable and humorous, especially if you are an Anglophile, but I wish I'd started the series with the first one because there are a lot of references to people and events from prior novels and it can be a bit tricky to navigate.
I just finished Armada, the new book by the author of Ready Player One. I really enjoyed it but not quite as much as the other one. That was to be expected considering I enjoy immersive, MMOs more than alien FPS games. Finishing it still left me with that sad, empty feeling I get when I really don't want the book to end.
QOTW: I can usually pull some sort of pasta dish together, either with red sauce, butter and garlic, or veggies.

I just finished We Are All Completely Besides Ourselves and absolutely LOVED it. It has been the best read in a very long time for me. I gave it 5 out of 5 stars!
I finished Paper Towns last week and was "eh" about it. did not really like it, BUT am heading to see the movie this evening, bc I have to ha
I am struggling through Hostile Witness and am getting bored with all the legal court room drama going on.
Still working on Dragonfly in Amber and also started Jane Eyre for my August book club
QOTD: Sweet potato nachos are my favorite go to staple. I always have the spices I need on hand, some type of protein, cheese and sweet potatoes

I think Ready Player One is on my to read list as of coming up next!

I'm reading Sidney Chambers and The Shadow of Death. It was hard to get started, but once I got into it it's really good. It's a collection of character-connected short stories so it's a kind of bite-sized reading, and perfect for the start-stop reading time I have right now. I bought the next-in-series yesterday.
QOTW: Prompted by the fact I have nothing but staples in my house right now. Pasta with butter is usually me nothing-in-the-house go to, but I can almost always pull a baked spaghetti/pasta dish out of the pantry, or a simple white-pie pizza.
I finally crawled my way out of a reading slump and finished Uprooted earlier this week which was amazing. I'm currently reading Midwinter Blood and it's ok so far.
I just finished My Beloved World, Sonia Sotomayor's memoir. LOVED IT! You all must read it, I insist. I even linked to the kindle site so you can DOWNLOAD IT RIGHT NOW! Very well-written, compelling, beautiful prose. I may have even shed a few tears. It was very inspiring.
