My husband has had an HTC smartphone for some time now. I have a "stupid" regular ole phone with no Internet connection, but I do have smartphone provided and paid for by my employer. With his data plan, our cell phone bill is our third highest behind rent and student loans. I hate that and really feel we need to cut back on the cell phone bill.
H bought a tablet in March and uses that most of the time. I've tried talking him into getting rid of the smartphone once his contract is up, but he contends he needs the smartphone because he can always access the Internet. His tablet only connects via Wi-Fi. He never has to travel for work or anything, and I already have a smartphone we don't pay for.
So my question is this: Does anyone here have both a smartphone and a tablet? Am I being at all unreasonable to ask him to give up the smartphone in favor of the tablet? Or, is there a way we could decrease our cell phone bill and keep the smartphone at the same time? (He already gets a discount through his employer.)

I'm not much help. DH and I both have iPhones and we have an iPad. We already pay for Wifi at the house and the iPad goes off that. We love our iPhones for when we are out. I suggest you shop around to determine whether you have the best rate for what you do. Some of the cell companies are going to family data plans so it may not cost much more to get you a smartphone too.
We have 2 smart phones, and a tablet that we tether to the phone data plan. It's fun, but unnecessary. We could easily live on just one smart phone, and the wi-fi tablet. Hell, 2 years ago we had none of the above and seemed to funtion just fine.
We have both. Combined they run $145 a month. I don't see how you can spend less on these devices than you spend on food. That being said what does the rest of your budget look like?
I would never, ever give up my phone for a tablet. It is awesome to have Internet access 24/7 on a device I already carry with me.
This. We have both but the convience of Internet when we are out is wonderful.
I would call CS and try to get them to give you a better deal. I always have good luck when I call the cancellation dept. last time they cut another ten dollars off one of my plans.
I can see where he's coming from, I just needed some perspective from others. The bill runs about $115, which certainly doesn't break us, but is more than I'd like to pay.
