Today we are going to a housewarming BBQ. Dh used to work with the guy but hasn't seen him since they stopped working together. We offered to bring something but we were told to just bring ourselves. I was thinking either alcohol (maybe a six pack of specialty beer or a bottle of wine) or a plant as a hostess/ housewarming gift. Wwyd?
I usually bring a plain white serving platter of some sort, like from BBB. I don't like wine, so I stay away from that, but I'm unusual. And I kill plants.
These are awesome! Do people bring real gifts like this to a housewarming party? We are new to these types of events so I was thinking more along the lines of a hostess gift.
If it's warm out chilled white wine or cold specialty beer sounds good. If you are unsure about alcohol then flowers. I wouldn't get something that can't be easily consumed or tossed since they are aquaintences and you don't know their tastes
I think I'd go with a 6 pack & a bottle of wine. Just keep it pretty simple beer & wine. Even if they don't like it I'm sure some of the other guests will & it's a nice gesture.
I would stick with beer and wine. The serving dishes are nice but I have a zillion already and it seems like an odd gift.
I missed the part about acquaintances, but I'm so sick of getting wine. I have the equivalent of 2 cases of wine in my basement because people always bring wine. And I don't drink beer. H does, but we're not huge drinkers, so alcohol gifts are pretty wasted on us.
It's a housewarming, do people not bring house-y gifts to housewarmings? I always see dish towels, and plain serving dishes and stuff at housewarmings.

I often serve the wine that's brought. Especially If I didn't drink wine I would absolutely open the bottle while the guests were there.

Yep I just serve it at the party and throw the beer in the cooler.
We were running late, so a trip to bed, bath and beyond was out. I grabbed two bottles of wine (thanks to bevmo and the .05 wine sale). The hostess opened one right away and put the other in the fridge. I will definitely keep that platter in mind for people we know better. These people are much older than we are (have adult children) and very well established. I think for a younger crowd it is a great idea.
