I don't want to buy anything on my cousin's baby shower registry. I am half hoping that if I procrastinate long enough I will have no choice but to go off registry because there was nothing left. Everything is ridiculously overpriced and ugly. Hello, did you not read baby bargains?! Ugh.
A cake made from scratch is a tasty wonderful thing, yet if I spend hours decorating a mix cake, I have still made it.
I make my own marshmallow fondant, but sometimes use canned frosting to stick it all together.
But if you're going to the trouble of making marshmallow fondant from scratch, is it really so difficult to whip up a buttercream? I cannot get on board with canned frosting at all. Even rainbow chip.
I am a firm believer in homemade frosting, but sometimes it is one step too far. It took a lot for me to cheat, and it felt like cheating, but I will maintain that I still made the damn cake.
Pecan pie and pumpkin pie are the only good pies. Otherwise. Be a cake. I have no use for cobblers and pies. Or ice cream cakes now that I am dessert venting....
I feel like Roseanne is tame compared to a lot of the t.v. today... Even the things marketed to teens and Tweens on ABC family. But, my parents basically banned nothing. I saw my first rated R movie in the theater (the Last of the Mohicans) when I was 7. I am probably tainted.
agreed my parents were pretty breezy about tv (including movies on tv bc we didn't have cable and they knew that movies on tv were edited for content) but movies ... Nope that's where the breeziness stopped ! I saw Pretty in Pink when I was in HS (5-6 years after its theater release) and Clueless came out when I was 21 ... so I think I saw that one in the theater
By this rule, I also don't "make" cookies, brownies, pancakes, waffles, chicken nuggets, or pizza.
Or, I mean, basically anything. I make nothing from scratch. lol
I really haven't made shit in the past X number of years cooking wise, except reservations and takeout orders. This is the only thing that makes me nervous about staying at home starting in September. I can deal with less frills, and fun money, but cooking regularly will be the biggest adjustment by far.
Did I know you are transitioning to SAH?!!!? This is brand new and exciting info! Please let's have a lot of playdates with our DD2s!
Also I can help you learn to cook. I never cooked a day in my life before I transitioned to PT/SAH with DD1 when she was 1. I am a rockstar cook now.
I think a boxed cake is still a cake lol, but I did get annoyed at my SIL a few years ago when I commented on how I wasnt a good baker and couldnt bake a cake (I dont like to "measure" lol) and she was like, I think thats so funny you cant bake, I bake cakes all the time, they're not hard.
But she bakes all her cakes using a box mix and canned frosting. Which is fine in itself, but dont give me a hard time for having issues baking a cake from scratch.
I used to bake boxed brownies all the time because they're easy as fuck and they taste amazing. And then I'd feel guilty when people called me an amazing baker. Um no, I'm just mixing eggs and oil!
I think brownies from a box are better than homemade 9 times out of 10.
Me either. I'd rather have ice cream over any other dessert. And I don't really like cookies besides golden Oreos and the only pies I like are sweet potato and lemon meringue.
I think lemon meringue pie is a waste of calories. Like...gelatinous lemon stuff? With some...crunchy tasteless white stuff on top? And I say this as someone who generally loves lemon and lemon-flavored baked goods.
9 times out of 10 I will also pass on pumpkin pie. It's just not worth it.
I cannot comprehend the dislike for bread pudding and cobbler previously expressed in this thread. Or carrot cake with cream cheese icing. CREAM CHEESE ICING IS AMAZING.
I hate everything lemon flavored and everything pumpkin flavored. It blows my mind that anyone actually enjoys pumpkin pie. I cannot comprehend it at all.
My mind is boggling right now. It's boggling because I will happily eat every.single.thing that has been mentioned above, including all of the pies, cobblers, and even the bread pudding. Sure, I'd prefer a nice big pan of brownies, a cake, or a plate stacked high with cookies, but I will turn my nose up at nothing as long as it contains sugar.
Also, I've tried numerous times to make cakes and icings from scratch, and 100% of the time have preferred boxed mixes and frostings over what I made. I guess I'm a crappy baker, I don't care. I could sit and eat an entire Betty Crocker cherry chip cake with canned vanilla frosting all by myself.

I will drink all of the lemonade (Newmans own pomegranate is love) but you can take all the lemon flavored desserts and get out. I also hate pumpkin in anything, including beer. However, my number one dessert ruiner is fucking nuts. They don't add anything except crunch, and I am always so mad when a delicious cookie or brownie has goddamn nuts in it. Unless you are a peanut that has been repurposed to peanut butter, stay the hell out of my desserts. Also, ghiardelli's triple chocolate brownie mix is the shit. Better than any from scratch brownie I have ever eaten.
