We have these nice old chairs that we love the style of but not quite the print of. I'm thinking of using a more modern fabric to make them work in our new family room. Has anyone ever upholstered a chair? The tutorials on Pinterest shows its time consuming and labor intense but not impossible.
We have reupholstered chairs before, but nothing that intricate before. I'm sure it could be done though. I love the fabric choice! I think slipcover first is a great idea. Post pics when you're done!
I have very little sewing experience. That's why reupholstering it sounds like a better route. That's just stapling. Well, after you pull it all apart.
Wouldn't a slip cover look funny on that anyway? It would have odd lines because of the shape of the back of the chair.

I love that fabric. I think they would look great reupholstered in that. I would not slipcover these chairs. You would lose all the lines and detailing that makes them awesome. I would worry that it would just look messy and like you were trying to protect it from dust or something. I am a pretty adept seamstress, and have reupholstered and slipcovered many pieces of furniture. Honestly, I would probably send a piece like this to a professional. I think it's doable for sure, but for me, all those awesome details - the piece on the arms, the curvy back, the piping - would drive me crazy and take a lot of patience and focus, two things that I am pretty short on while at home with the kiddos. It might be worth at least calling a reupholsterer and finding out what they might charge for a job like that, and then you can weigh the cost vs. your time and patience level, you know?
