How old was your youngest when you got rid of board books? My dd is 3 and never picks them out to read, but I'm still hanging on to at about 100 board books.

I don't know - DS2 is 3.5 and we still have all of ours. He does still like for us to read them, though. Also DS1 can read many of them, so he'll read them to DS2. Hopefully in the next year we can weed some of them out.

We've been hanging on to them for kid #3, but if we were done I think around 2.5 or 3 years old. DS2 just turned 3 and we hardly ever read them at all. And I did recently give a bunch of a friend who just had his first kid.
We got rid of them when DD was around 2. She had completely lost interest by then. I kind of regret it now though because they would make great first readers. Oh well--they weren't exactly in great shape since she chewed on them more than anything else.
I've been saving them for when DD is an early reader. She's sort of over them but she likes to read them to DS and that's cute. She also likes them before bed sometimes alone.
The others I ditched because the kids chewed through them.
We narrowed our collection down to DS's favorite 7 or 8 books when he was 4, and I probably could have done it sooner. I'm not saving them for when he starts reading - they are bulky and babyish. I have bought paperback early reader books on topics he likes (Super Heroes!)and would rather stock his bookcase with those. The board books I keep for sentimental reasons.
Well we're not they're yet since I have a 6 month old, but my 4 ur old still chooses board nooks sometimes. I don't plan to get rid of any books until I need the room for more books, lol.

My mom had saved a ton of my books from when I was in early elementary school. I read a lot of them to DS now, and while he still likes he board books, he seems to like my old ones more. I had a bunch of the Little Mr / Miss books, and those are his #1 favorites right now.
I am still holding on to board books, but I won't buy more.
Just the idea of getting rid of his books makes me want to cry (not just because of the growing up too fast thing, but because I am obsessed with books). This is why I haven't started reading The Magical Fantasyland of Tidying Up.
I'm looking for a copy of a few Sandra Boyton books! Send them to me.
LOL I was about to say I would take some off the OP's hands too.
Which ones are you ladies looking for? I happen to have a bunch of Boynton board books (and plenty of others) sitting in my spare room right now waiting for me to decide what to do with them. If I have the ones you want, you can have them for the cost of shipping to you.

My son is almost 2.5 and we're starting to weed out the really simple book boards now. I'm keeping the bigger stories that happen to be in board book format but he's definitely more into longer (paper) books now. Based on this thread, I'll be keeping a few for when he starts reading though- great tip!
