We're going to NYC for a few days with our kids (6 and 9). We have most of Friday open - are going to the Freedom Tower at 4pm but have nothing yet planned that morning and are also looking for ideas for dinner after. We also have Saturday morning open - are going to see Matilda on Broadway at 2pm then dinner at BIL's apartment. I'm debating whether we'll want to have time back at the hotel before Matilda. Hotel is near Penn Station so about 15 minute walk from the theater.
Last time we were there we did a kids theater show in Central Park, a horse drawn carriage ride, and the Natural History Museum.
I always recommend Blue Smoke for dinner. Great barbecue, and they bring out cookies for the kids to decorate at the start of the meal, then they get to have them for dessert at the end of the meal.

We were there a couple weeks ago with our 5 and 7 yos and did Blue Smoke for dinner. It was great for kids.
Have your kids seen the Statue of Liberty? We did the Beast tour--a 45 minute trip on a totally obnoxious looking speedboat with teeth painted on it where they spray you with water guns and blare Springsteen. Possibly the most quintessentially American way to view an historic attraction. It's pretty ridiculous, but my kids loved it.
We also did the Museum of Natural History, walked around Central Park, and the Empire State Building.
They have not been to the Statue of Liberty. We were looking into taking them there, but I'm sure they'd LOVE the Beast tour.
