Our community is in the process of switching trash companies. The old company was supposed to pick up our old cans today, but they did not. There is a gravel area next to my home. One of my neighbors decided to move all the trashcans (about 20 or so) into that gravel area to "tidy up the alley." I moved them out because I don't want 20 trashcans right next to my house for who knows how long, especially sitting over gravel that cannot be hosed down/cleaned.
Am in in the wrong for moving them? I just got a semi-nasty email from the neighbor who moved them all.
I am BEC territory with my HOA and trashcans are a major source of irritation for me. This same neighbor routinely moves them into the middle of our garage door so you cannot back your car out.
PDQ She moved them AGAIN. They are now all lined up in front of her garage and in front of other peoples' garages. INSANE.

You took all 20 cans to the individual neighbor's houses? Or somewhere else?
Whose trashcans is he putting in your driveway? Your own or everyone's?
This is weird.
It's my property next to my house. A neighbor moved all the cans to there. I moved them back to the alley, putting one by each house.
It's my trashcan they are putting in front of my garage. This always happens on trash day, the can usually still has trash in it because the garbage truck comes late.
I think she should have asked you how you felt about them being right next to your house. However, if it is a "public" piece of ground, I'm not sure you can complain too much. :/

Your property? You're right here.
And that is weird that they would put your can in front of your garage when it still has trash in it. I would have said maybe they thought they were being helpful by making it easier for you to put away, but not with garbage still in it!

A few things. Yes, it would bother me of it was my property and I was not asked. It would be unacceptable if they stay there longer than, say, a week. If I knew they would be gone in a week, if they didn't reek, and I had no company coming over within that time, I would leave them, as well as write a polite, 'Please contact me prior to moving items onto my property. Have a great day!'-type email to the HOA person.

This guy cares waaaaaaay too much about trash cans. Why on Earth does he put it in front of your garage when there is still garbage in it? our trash pickup won't take it unless the can is by the curb. That is insane, and I wouldn't want 20 trash cans next to my house either.
It's always on trash day, there is usually still garbage in the bin.
I'd have a quick "wtf neighbor, quit doing this" talk with your nosey ass neighbor! That would only happen once to me, I'd be livid!
I have! This is an old email of mine:
Neighbors:
Please note that we (XXX XXXXX) currently have our trash can left out because the trash company did not empty it this week. We have left a message, and have not heard back, with the HOA management company and trash company about this issue.
The trash can is filled with flies from having trash left in for an extended time and we will be leaving the trash can out until the next time the trash is picked up.
We ask that whoever continues to move the trash can and place it in front of our garage to please stop moving it. We are leaving the trash can as out of way as possible on the side of our garage and are not blocking anyone's area as far as we can tell.
If anyone has an issue with this, please contact me directly and we can discuss the placement of the trash can in more detail.
This is super weird. Does this neighbor move other peoples' trash cans routinely? Have you done something that has pissed them off?
Yes, mine is not the only bin moved.
I have been snippy in the past over the "who has my trashcan" email chains from my neighbors. They would go on forever when people could have just walked the alley to find their trashcan. Though this hasn't been an issue in 3 years or so...

If my neighbor put 20 trash cans on my lawn, I would be pissed. If my neighbor put my trash can on my other neighbor's lawn with 19 other trash cans I would be pissed.
We have several retirees with very little to do. I have very little to do as well, but I don't make trashcans my cause. =)
You are not old enough yet, I imagine. Something to look forward to? lol
And yeah, I'd have a GIANT issue with 20 trash cans on my property. Especially if there is no specific timeline as to when exactly they will be picked up. Not okay.

i cant even formulate a response to this. Your neighbor moved the entire neighborhood's empty trash cans onto gravel on your property without your permission or knowledge and was both surprised and incensed enough that you moved them back to their original positions to get pissy about it? Seriously, i cannot fathom this. I would nor want this for an hour, never mind a day or, God forbid, a week or more until they were picked up. No. No. No. No. No.

DH commented during dinner, "why is the crazy lady moving all the trashcans next to our house?"
I was all "why in the hell didn't you tell me this when you walked in from work? Why did you wait until dinner to say something?"
He thought I should have just sent out an email asking them to take them off our property. I felt like action was better, so I got up from dinner and moved them all away from our house. And I am very confused why DH didn't say anything to her while she was doing it. And it took about 15 minutes after I moved them back for her to email me. I think she called me as well, I have a missed called from a number I don't recognize.
OMFG, no. I tend to be overly breezy about neighbor nonsense, but I would lose it if I came home and there were 20 trash cans on my property. LOL forever at whomever said they'd leave them if they knew they'd be gone in a week. I would not last a day with that many garbage cans on my property, much less 7 days. If I had money to blow, I'd consider renting a pickup truck and taking them all to the dump and leaving them there out of spite.

Your H must be extremely non-confrontational. I'm usually that way, but some things require action. 20 trash cans being moved to your property, empty or not, is one of those things.
