I'm no help, other than the obvious advice. ((Hugs)) I never realized live were such an issue before being here since I don't remember much about it as a kid. I'm terrified my kids will get it eventually.
My favorite method was to wash hair like usual, then put in conditioner. Then take a metal lice comb and comb out with the conditioner section by section, wiping it on toilet paper/paper towel/whatever inbetween each so you can see what you are getting out. Repeat every 3 days or so until you come back with nothing. Repeat maybe every 5 days or week for another 2 weeks to verify you didn't miss anything. Its a process. But this was not super harsh and worked.
Arent you in Omaha or am I thinking of someone else? Omaha has lice removal places.
I'm like 3 hours from Omaha. In the middle of nowhere. Unless @deanlicker wants to be my lice lady.
Well lice can't live more than a day without a head. Soooo....drive to Omaha, get everyone checked and treated. Stay overnight, go home, vacuum, wash your sheets and forget it ever happened? By time you came back anything laying around on pillows or hairbrushes or couches would be dead.

I'm finding that constantly brushing their hair out w the lice comb is working. They don't currently have anything in their hair.
I soaked both of their head in apple cider vinegar, let it dry, then applied olive oil, covered w a shower cap, and left it on overnight. The acv is supposed to loosen the "glue" on the nits, the olive oil suffocates the live bugs. In the morning, I combed through it thoroughly to remove everything. I've been giving both of their hair a comb through every day and haven't found anything in 2 days. I'm also using fairy tales Rosemary repel shampoo and conditioner on everyone in the house, and I found a natural repellant spray at target that I've been using as well. So far Bonnie and h haven't gotten it.
