DS2 needs a haircut in a bad way, especially in the back. It's got long whispy strands of significantly different lengths all over his head. But he is 16 months old, and I cannot imagine getting him to sit still long enough for someone to come near his head with scissors. And I am not a buzz it off kind of person. Anyone do haircuts young and actually have their babies tolerate it?
I'm going to get DS1's haircut today and am going to ask her opinion, but I have a feeling she'll try and be nice and just tell me it will be fine.
He may surprise you! My kids are little tornados but generally behave very well for haircuts. Just pull out your phone and YouTube a show if things start getting dicey.

DH's barber has cut DS's hair twice (once around 15 months and again around 17). We bring lots of toys, puffs, etc. The barber puts shows on his phone for him too (but DS isn't really into tv yet).
It's not too bad, you can always bail if you must.

All of my kids had their first haircuts (and then regular one about every 6-8 weeks) starting around 12 months old. We take them to a kids salon, where they have TVs and stylists that can handle toddlers, and it's been fine. DS1 screamed through his first few haircuts, but we all managed.
C just turned 2 last week and he's had four haircuts so far. He cries when we first set him in the seat, but he actually sits really well once they get started. We don't do a full buzz or anything like that.
My DS had really long hair that we started cutting before he was 12 months. I just held him in my lap in the barber chair the first few times. He was fine the first time, cried the second, but I just held him as still as I could and then he got better and better. He has a haircut about every month, but now we mostly do buzz cuts for him at 3.5.

For her first haircut (18ish months) we went to one of those kids salons with the airplane seats and TVs, etc. For the second one we went to a regular salon and bribed with m&ms. Over the weekend I did a hack job on her bangs and bribed with m&ms and we'll probably keep doing that for a while
B got his first haircut around one, and at 23 months he's had at least 5 or 6.
The first was a breeze - he sat on his daddy's lap and played with a toy.
They got progressively worse from there
We finally found a stylist at a fancy Aveda salon that does a GREAT job. He still cries, but she's really patient. Bring lots of distractions (we do Thomas on the phone), and clothes that are easy to strip off when he's done (little baby blond hair EVERYWHERE), and wipes to wipe hair from his face and neck. He DOES NOT DO clippers, so they do the best they can with quick snips of scissors!

My regular hairdresser cut L's hair when she was 8 months, and again at a year. L sat in my lap and looked around at everything, or chewed on a (sanitized) hair clip, lol. No issues.
Are you willing to throw money at the problem? Is there a Sharkey's near where you live? It's $25. V is generally high-energy, but he will sit in the police car and watch Daniel Tiger or Thomas the Tank Engine until it's all done. Plus he gets a balloon to take home, which makes for a nice toy.
msniq has trimmed his hair in the high chair once or twice.
Just give it a try. DS is usually only still for food and sleep, but haircuts have been surprisingly, very manageable! His first was just before a year old and he's had 5 or 6 since then.
He does sit on either me or DH as he's wiggly on his own. At first, just the new environment was enough for him to stop and watch. Now, we just put Elmo on our phone and he's fine.
I cut my son's hair, he's now 3 years old. When he was a lot younger, I would put him in the high chair, turn on one of his favorie shows and put out a bunch of snacks. Wait just a little bit to let them get into the show and you would be amazed at how he barely noticed what I was doing to him. Same can probably go if I took him into a kids cutting salon.
We started getting DS regular haircuts starting around 10 or 11 months. We take him to this hipster barbershop and they are fantastic! He just turned two and he's been there 5 times in the past year. He tolerates it but doesn't always love it. He sits in my husband's lap while they cut it. They are very efficient though!

We go to one of those kid salons. They are used to wiggly kids. Plus they stick them in a little car so they aren't sitting in a regular barber's chair. DS has had about 3 haircuts now and he's not yet two. He normally goes a million miles per minute, but he does a decent job of sitting still for the haircut. They let him play with the hair clips and last time gave him a sucker.
DS' first haircut was when he was 15 months and he did great. We also went to a kids place where he got to sit in a car and watch mickey mouse so he was distracted/entertained.
We have one kids place around us, I took DS1 there a year or so ago and it was so, so awful. He sits super still, and the front of his hair was literally cut at a slant. And when I pointed it out, she totally didn't see it. Not going back there. We're going to chance it with the girl who does DS1's hair and cross our fingers!

bahahaha.... my kids was great for hair cuts until this weekend (just turned 2 this month). He now fights, kicks, screams and pushes the stylist away. We left with have of his hair cut (the clipper part was mostly done) on Saturday. I cut the top of it with scissors myself Sunday (long after he calmed from his meltdown). I am hoping this is just a phase!

I just tell myself everything is a phase. And then drink after they go to bed lol
With hair cuts, it probably helps that my aunt is our hairdresser and she's patient. And that DD LOVES to be pampered and the boys generally fall in line when they see that she likes or wants something. So since she sees it as a treat, they fight over who gets to go first.
