Remember how I told you about our foster a week or so ago? The one who was diagnosed with lymphoma right after we got her? The vet guesses she has 1-3 months left.
She is a sweetheart, so calm and cuddly and a great dog but I'm going crazy! Supposedly she was potty trained before coming to the rescue. I kind of doubt that because since day 1 being with us she has had accidents. Thankfully we have a carpet shampooer but I'm getting so tired of finding a pee line on the carpet. I'm also tired of picking up poop and I'm tired of getting the carpet shampooer out after I find each accident. And the biggest issue is she smells. She needs a dental really badly but with her condition it's never going to happen. So not only does her breath smell but she also just gives off a body odor and has gas. I feel like my whole house just smells and I can't take it. I can't stand clutter, mess or anything that resembles a messy house. So having a house that just smells from a stinky dog is SO hard for me. I never feel like it's clean because it always smells. Our other two dogs (also pugs) don't smell so this is totally new for me. Obviously I'm not going to do anything about it but ugh. There's my vent for the day.
What have they been feeding her? I'm guessing shelters probably just feed what they have available and lower quality foods can make dogs staaaaaank.
My parents dog is incontinent and it's hard to deal with. He's technically as healthy as an elderly dog can really be, but I know my parents have strongly considered putting him to sleep over it (we're talking 5-8x a day, and it's like a full glass of liquid was spilled).
She came with Iams as that's what the old owners fed her. As much as I hate Iams I was going to keep her on it because I didn't want to switch too much on her. Then she smelled and tasted what our dogs eat, Acania Pacifica, and now won't touch the Iams. So we ended up fully switching her to Acania.
Yeah most days it's multiple accidents and it's so frustrating.
Will she wear doggie diapers? If so at least that would help with the accidents.
I'm actually embarrassed to say I never thought of that! I'll try to pick some up and see if she would. She's the easiest going dog ever so I really don't see her fighting them. Worth a shot- thanks!

I only thought of it because my coworker's older dog was having MOTN accidents last week. Diapers have solved her problem.

I would ask about the best food for her to be on...use greenies, and honestly just do a deep cleaning of carpets once she is gone...keep loving her now!!!!!!
Inimprinine is another med option. Our dog is on it and it's been somewhat helpful.
Has she been checked for a uti? Our dog has had 2 Uti's recently and they make his incontinence so much worse. And make his pee so stinky. He's on a second dose of antibiotics to get it knocked out.
Other than that, just try to be patient. It sucks but I remind myself it sucks for my dog, too. You're doing a good thing. I know it's hard.
