When we went to kinder orientation in April the teachers said that they test all the kids then the teachers get together and place the students so that the kids are all mixed academically. I don't know if that's true because as a teacher I know the clas lists at my school were done in May. The school opens in a week (I haven't seen any cars there). I will call. Yep she's that parent who says her kid can already read and will be going to the principal to ask how the teacher will challenge her child. She also told me that she wants to go in the class the first day and watch. I taught kinder for 3 yrs and have taught first for 14 and I told her that wouldn't fly.
OMG. She's really going to be "that parent". The first day she's going to show the school her crazy and lose all credibility. And this is ONLY kindergarten. She's in for a long haul and a lotta hurt.
DS had a friend in 2 and 3 year old preschool. They were super crazy together and during his 3 year preschool year the only thing he would say that he did was play with this friend - nothing about another friend, nothing he learned. I purposefully put him in a different class for his next year and his teacher (who was the same for the 3 & 4 year old year) said it was the best thing I could have done for him. I knew they wouldn't be going to K together and having that friend around was stifling him making other friends. I would definitely request they be in different classes and I wouldn't wait to call because I know our K letters with assignments have already gone out.
