We have a LeapPad Ultra and a Kindle Fire that the kids can use. Personally, I like the kindle fire better. It has great parental controls and will grow with them better. And the kindle free time case looks like it isn't much, but it really does protect the kindle from drops.
Eta: The kids are also occasionally allowed to play games/watch movies on my old smartphone, which makes a great (small) kid tablet.
We have a LeapPad but the kids don't care for it. They do better on actual tablets so they both recently got the Nabi2 and so far we love it!
Is it hard to use? Or they prefer the games on the Nabi2?
They are used to playing the apps on my iPad so we just opted for an actual tablet where we could download the same apps. The LeapPad is not hard for a three yr old to use, though.

Noah has the Nabi Dreamtab and I love it. It has kid mode and parent mode and in parent mode it is a normal tablet. and you can set limits on the apps they use. Which I think is cool. there are a lot of neat features.
DS1 has a kindle fire, and loves it. DS2 has a Nabi2, and loves it as well. DD uses our iPad mini once in awhile, but can use any of the 3 easily. I actually like the Nabi out of the 3 for this age best.
