A mom from DD's preK class is looking for in home child care for her 2 kids now that she just got a new job. Let me tell you what it entails and you tell me what I should ask for pay-wise.
Our daughters go to PreK together 9-1. I would have the mornings with DS only. Her husband would drop the baby (8 weeks) old off at my house at noon. I would take both kids to pick up the girls (4 years old) from PreK at 1 (5 min away and is a carpool, I don't get out of the car). I would watch them all until 5:30/6 depending on traffic. M-F. So it's an afternoon gig.
I am still weighing out the pros and cons but I figured I would get some opinions in regards to what to charge her.
I wouldn't do it. I would watch the older kid but an eight week old- no thanks.
yeah, I know some people like babies but in home daycare doesn't make as much as centers. You can charge $12/hour but I'd just assume they'd send them somewhere else for that much. That's what a nanny costs here.
I wouldn't watch an 8 week old for $30/day but that's normal for here.
So you would have two 4 year olds, your DS and an 8 week old, every single afternoon M-F? Personally I would not take this on. It would be too much for me and my DS (also 4) has activities apart from school and I can't imagine carting all the kids around and the 8 week old might keep you from getting anything done around the house. I would absolutely be a back up person for the mom but not every day.
The hours sound ok to me...$25 or $30 a day seems low to me for an 8 week old though. 6 hours? At least $50 I'd say. With the 4 year old, if probably charge about $75 ish a day.

I would find out what rates are in your area OP. Where I live a nanny (on the books) is upwards of $30 a day. Off the books typically about $20-$25 a day.
I think this is somewhere between an official home daycare (aka cheap) and a nanny. It's at your house and your kids are still there, so hard to still command the $15-20 a nanny would get.
On the other hand, I can't imagine doing that unless I was getting at least $10/hour and I think I'd still be miserable. A few days a week, maybe, or just the 4 year old, but 6 hours/day of both of them on top of your own is A LOT. I'd rather do almost anything else if I needed money.
I know you just lost your regular gig, so I'm not sure if replacing that incoming money is crucial right now or not. If you do decide to do it, I would start with a trial basis of a month or so w/ an out for you w/ no hard feelings.

That's the whole thing. We had just figured how to reconfigure the budget and blah blah and then this opportunity came up which would cover most of my lost wages so it just seems like it fell in my lap for a reason. I did tell her that if I do it I would like a trial week to see and that way if I know I can't do it immediately I will watch the girls while she finds other arrangements.

There would not be an amount of money to make me do this. Committing my whole afternoon all week to 4 kids under 5 one being an infant sounds torturous. One or two afternoons a week to have a playmate for my 4 year old seems like it might be fun but being stuck at home everyday does not appeal to me at all.
I'd charge at least $50 per day. A typical day rate for one child around here (mid-west) for in-home is about $35 per day including food. The gig doesn't sound too bad. Your DD will have a playmate in the afternoon, so hopefully that will free up some time for you to devote to the 8 week old. Like others have said give it a trial run for a few weeks at least. A week doesn't sound like enough time for everyone involved to adjust. Good luck!
