Kind of related question. Do most people have two dressers, one for them and one for SO? I went through my dresser but I feel like there are so many categories for women: underwear, bras, jeans, work pants, shorts, skirts, yoga/workout pants, pajamas, etc that I have no idea how we'd ever have one dresser.
We don't have a true dresser, per se. We have a tiny walk in closet and we outfitted them with IKEA closet components. I put four drawers on my side (one for socks, underwear, bras, belts, tanks; one for tops and bottoms; one for workout gear; one for pajamas/lounge wear). I posted a picture of two of my drawers above in this thread. Now that I've re folded I have one full and one half empty drawer. I do have a few dresses that I hang.
H has two drawers (one for socks, undershirts and underwear; one for shirts). Picture also posted above of how much more room he has.
He does have an entire hanging rod (about 36") for work shirts and pants. I don't have work clothes.

We have only one dresser (that is actually a buffet). It has 4 drawers in the middle with a small drawer on top of a cabinet on either side (cabinet has one shelf).
I take the two small drawers for bras and underwear, we each have a cabinet and DH has 3 of the 4 drawers. I take up 75% of the hanging space in our closet, but DH uses shelves in the closet for all his pants, shorts, shoes and socks, whereas my side has shoes, socks and purses.
We keep our workout gear in another closet in bins. I've been thinking about getting one big/tall dresser to replace the buffet so we can move our workout clothes out of the other closet, but I need to stomach the idea of paying more than $100 for it...
I'm waiting to get the book from the library. In the meantime I have a question: What does she suggest you do if you don't have dressers?
I have a walk in closet with the two wire shelves all around. Right now I have pjs, socks, underwear, exercise clothes, etc on piles on the lower shelf but it always looks messy. Plus there are clothes hanging from the bottom of the shelf. I'm sure I'll get rid of about half my clothes. But still what is the best way to organize /fold what's on top of the shelves?

she suggests using bin or boxes within your drawers to organize things, so i would use that method in the closet.
I just did gift bags and tissue and wrapping paper. Good lord, I was apparently planning to give out a thousand gifts in gift bags at some point. Cut it in about half. Kept the pretty (joyful!) ones.

Got rid of a third of our DVDs, and nearly all of our combined 200+ CD collection. I kept a few that I'm hoping to upload into the computer. Next I'll take all the DVDs out from their cases and organize into the empty CD binders.
Do you throw CDs away? We don't have any of the jewel cases, so they're all loose in a cardboard box. Could also drop with the DVDs at the thrift store this week but I don't know that they could resell that way?
i just set a date with a friend to start her house. SO PUMPED! she's read most of the book and has started grabbing easy things to get rid of, but is struggling to actually get them out the door. i'm mostly going to go along behind her bagging and boxing things, filling her suv (and my car, if necessary), and making a pile of garbage/recycling to go to the landfill. i'm hoping she can snag a work truck so i can fill it for the landfill and then it HAS to go the next day because there is a deadline on returning the truck. we're going to drink wine, order in something tasty for lunch, and get rid of all the things

I finally have the book here.
Also have someone coming to buy about a third of my maternity clothes (it was two different sizes), but better than nothing!
I donated about 15 sweaters this week, and have about 10 that I kind of want to put aside for when they fit again (lol). I'm hoping the book can dissuade me. Either way thy don't need to be in the master closet.
I won't let this thread die. I love it. I spent close to 3 hours cleaning my living room. I removed items that don't really need to be there and got rid of some others I hated. My toddler came in after I took this pic and started destroying it but I am so happy with the way it looks and feels.
Some of the items are hiding in my guest room. I need to box them up and remove them from my home. That's my goal this week.

I went through my closet yesterday. I wasn't nearly as strict about getting rid of things as I should have been, but still I managed to pull two decent sized stacks out. Hoping to tackle my dresser tonight or tomorrow, then get everything dropped off at the donation center later this week.

I'm currently at 7 bags of clothes and one of belts and purses to donate. Sadly, this is all my clothes, not H or DD, and I'm not even done yet. I still have to go through dresses, sweaters, and coats. Clearly it has been waaaay too long since I weeded out my clothes.
Plus, I'm cheating and keeping a decent number of clothes that I'm hoping to fit back into soon now that I'm finally trying to lose the baby weight.

if you actually like those clothes and they bring you joy i see nothing wrong with this. her system is good, but it's not perfect. it doesn't account for moms who are rotating through prepregnancy, materinity, and postpartum wardrobes so you have to sort of make up your own rules there.
Just sold $40 worth of vases. Lots more listed. If they don't sell within a week they are being donated! It feels so good. Still waiting on the book from the library, though.

Our entire CD and DVD collection now resides in three large binders on a shelf next to the TV. Previously they were scattered around the house, plus filled two giant tubs in the guest room closet. I'm excited to start watching them again now that finding the one I want isn't a giant ordeal!
i'm starting to purge digital stuff. millions of pictures mostly. pinterest too, which is fun. i found a recipe and tried it tonight - definitely a new favourite! i might actually use it as a resource if it's not so cluttered
Oh, God. Deleting pictures could take the rest of my life. I should really start doing it in pieces, as there is no way on earth I'll ever have time to do it "in one go".
But it would be so nice to have a curated collection of nice shots, rather than thousands of shots to sift through to find anything.

I think this every Christmas when I'm scrambling at the last second to make photo calendars for the grandparents. I always say I'm going to be better about it going forward, but the thought of going through my pictures to clean them up on a regular basis almost sounds more exhausting than just swearing a lot while I dig through all of them at 11:59 pm on the last day for shipping to arrive before Christmas.

I did just have an epiphany on Pinterest (lol). Choose what to keep, not what to get rid of. So I made a new board, copied the pins I actually still am interested over to it, and deleted the old board. I need to take that approach with photos - find a couple good ones, delete all the similar duplicates without looking too closely at them.

I have 15 days left on my picture a day and then my goal through the end of the year is to go through and delete, catalog and edit all my pics from last year. I also need to get them all in one place and tag them so I can find them. My goal is to work on it daily as my creative outlet. Im excited to see all my work finally edited and printed but dreading the time this is going to take. Then January I start another picture a day which sometimes amounts to 100's of pictures a day.

I'm so glad this thread isn't dead yet! I was finally able to do some purging last night. I didn't do it the Kon-Mari way, but I did walk around the house and grab anything we didn't use or didn't like. I was able to fill 2 huge boxes full of random stuff.
I also recycled my entire Oxygen magazine collection. I'd been saving them for almost 7 years in case I needed to look up a new workout routine. Let's be honest. If I need a workout, I'm going to Google, not look through years and years of magazine back issues.
My only issue arose when DH saw me loading the back of my car and freaked out. "This is a perfectly good stock pot!" Yes, that we haven't used in the 11 years we've been married. "Your sister got you that bowl (the ugly Rachel Ray garbage bowl), it's rude to just throw it away!" 1) Ugly, 2) Never been used. "We still use that yellow colander!" No, we don't, and we have 6 other ones. "That's the kids favorite toy!" It's been in a box in the basement for 8 months, so they can't be too attached.
I managed to get rid of him before he pulled out too much stuff, but I'm guessing I'm not going to be able to get him on board to do his stuff any time soon. Grrr...

Wait, digital tidying??? No. The best thing that ever happened for clutter in my house is digital photos! They don't take up (real, in-person) space! They aren't an eyesore. They aren't scattered all over my house for me to trip over in the middle of the night! Sure, my computer is a virtual stuffed to the gills closet of crap, but the door is shut! Leave it be!
the kidney foundation is coming to pick up bags of clothes on Sept 4 so I have until then to go through all our our closets and get rid of stuff that's not bringing me joy. This weekend, it is on!

I need to purge the 12.5GB of photos on my ipod touch in preparation our WDW trip. Aaaah, I don't want to! It's going to take for.e.ver & I don't like deleting pics, even if they are backed up in multiple places. But I don't have a choice, there's not any more space for new pics & videos. And I'm sure I'll want to take a crap load while we're there.
I'm still slowly working through the book. Did you guys actually get on board with keeping everyone's things in one spot? I'm not putting toys in the kids' rooms.
I have not read the book but have been following this thread and was inspired to clean out my closet. I got rid of two bags worth of stuff - one alone was dresses. DH loves purging so he jumped in and pulled a bag of stuff to donate as well. I tried to schedule a pickup this week but nothing's available until next week. DD1's birthday party is this weekend so I want it gone...I'm going to drop it off instead.

We need to get into our kitchen. We've discussed what to get rid of, but I need to get up on the step ladder and pull the stuff down that actually needs to be purged.
I did sell my huge pot/steamer last week, but the food processor that has MAYBE been used once still needs to go. Also, the huge cookie containers we got to transport the cookies to our wedding can likely go.
Question: Would getting a (SMALL) storage space to hold the baby stuff for the hypothetical #2 that #1 is outgrown completely antithetical to this mentality? I'd love to gain some storage space for stuff we actually use, and possibly actually utilize the closet in A's room for...you know, her stuff, but I'm not sure if that would turn into somewhere else to just house "stuff".
I'm still slowly working through the book. Did you guys actually get on board with keeping everyone's things in one spot? I'm not putting toys in the kids' rooms.
Lol, no. I also don't unpack my purse every night.

No. We each have our own spots in the living room. Maybe when the kids are older, but right now putting all of DD's toys in her room would A) not fit because her room is small, and B) result in her playing with them at 2 am.
