Thanks! I want to to purge so bad but have the urge to purge random things like my nightstand.
Any suggestions on what to do with knitted doilies from my grandma? She made them and I'll never use them for their intended use. I'm wondering if I could repurpose them.
I was watching The Property Brothers and they took old doilies and framed like two or three of them with a colored background to tie the room together. It looked really nice.
Or, wow, go to Pinterest. You can cover just about anything with a doilie (is that the singular?). Some of it looks beautiful and other stuff just looks like you've stuck a doilie on your lampshade.
My SIL did this with 3 frames on the ball across the back of a couch...looks cool!.
I'm going to be making a run to the store to drop off an old camera, phone and angelcare monitor. The monitor was given to me by a former co- and it pretty old and we never used it.
I knew it was there but I found by crimper, circa 1988. I'm conflicted.

I'm Kon Mari-ing my xmas ornaments and it feels soooooo good! My mom has given us ornaments (multiple ornaments) EVERY SINGLE YEAR since we were born. Some of wonderfully sentimental and special and some are just horrible, ugly, and old. I'm tired of keeping every ornament just because it says "my name '87" or whatever in sharpie. Next will be the rest of the decorations!

I really need to do that, though at least I got rid of the elementary school decorations a few years ago.
I read the book and was convinced (though daunted by my ridiculous amount of clothing spanning multiple sizes). Yesterday, on our way home from our Thanksgiving travels, I read almost half the book to my husband. He said I could hold off on my clothes (even though it's breaking the rules).
So this morning he did his whole wardrobe while I did just shoes and coats (and went from over 100 to about 50 pairs of shoes). We then moved on to books. We haven't quite finished, but we're getting rid of a lot!
Sadly, our progress might slow during the rest of the holiday season, but I can't wait to do more!

This is incredible! If clothes as a whole are daunting keep breaking down the categories. Starting with shoes and coats is great!
I've been meaning to revive this thread and see if the joy of tidying has ruined anyone's christmas we exchange gifts with one SIL and we scaled it back to a $30 limit (far cry from the $70-100pp we used to spend), but I'm still at a loss for what I want. I need $60 worth of ideas and all I can think of is socks, lol. Maybe a bath mat since ours is getting ratty. I just don't want more things. I don't want to shop.

Consumables? Special coffee? Movie tix? Fancy olive oil?

I agree with heygrey - if it's too much to do all your clothes at once, break it up. That's how I did my clothes. Pants one day, then sweaters, then shirts, then dresses, etc. it made it much more manageable and less daunting to do it that way.

I asked for upgrades for things that I don't completely love but can't afford to replace at the moment (not necessarily because they're expensive things; we're just on a really tight budget right now), like some prettier serving pieces, a new work bag, etc.
Oo, food stuff is good! I just added fancy olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper, and tea. Maybe chapstick and a bottle of $$ soap that I love.
My parents give us a generous cash gift and I upgraded some pots and pans, bought a pair of boots, and have $40 left which I'm planning to use for new underwear, lol.
I'm also going through the christmas stuff. I got rid of a lot last year, but the rest is going today. I've also minimized the amount of decor that I display and I'm thrilled with that, too.
Ahhhh thanks for reviving this thread. I just made a giant bin for goodwill filled with decorations from all holidays. I'm down to a fall wreath, two bins of christmas and a tree. I also went through my gift bags and party stuff and my giant wedding bin. Wth was I holding on to my wedding shower ribbon bouquet and cards?

This process has certainly cast Christmas in a different light this year! I'm putting much more thought into the things I put on DS's wish list for family. I opted out of a secret santa exchange with friends bc I knew I'd likely end up resenting whatever items were given to me...might as well save my $25 and frustration Our parents are the only ones who give us gifts but don't really ask what we (adults) would like and my mom has said she's going with just gift cards this year (but god knows where, so there's still some non-joy sparking possibility there). If someone were to ask the only things I can think that I want are, as other suggested above, upgrades on some things that are fine but I'd rather replace with better/newer if we had limitless money (new baking pans, new oversize bath towels).
