Mostly, post on MMA, but yes, they do need to call an ambulance if she won't let him. He'll probably have to stay a few days and they'll pull the fluid off him. All of that extra fluid will continue to make his BP go high.
What is it about men not wanting to go to the hospital even though they clearly need to? My stepdad is acting the same way with my mom, and they finally got him to the hospital.

I'm sorry to hear this, tamb. If I were you I would call the paramedics and have them sent over there. You don't want to fuck around with fluid retention.
I really hope he goes tomorrow, but I'd urge him not to hesitate to go tonight if he starts feeling strange(er). Fluid retention and displacement can really throw someone for a loop. My concern would be his ability to safely get into and out of the office. If it is that severe, it might not be safe for him to be frequently changing his elevation (you know how sometimes if you stand up too fast, you get light headed? It would be like that, but way worse because of the fluid imbalance). Tell him to take it slow if he absolutely refuses to go to the ER tonight.
((((hugs)))) I really hope he's ok, and it is a relatively easy fix.
I'm sorry tamb, I hope he can find some way to get comfortable tonight and his doc can see him first thing tomorrow. I'm sure you feel really helpless. Take care of yourself- you've had a rough couple of weeks *hugs*
