My parents took pity on the fact that M didn't have any outdoor toys and got him his birthday presents early--a fisher price golf set and the blue truck version of the Flintstone-style red car we had when we were growing up. Both are big hits.

DS2 is very into his Duplos, Little People (Farm, Noah's Ark, etc.), and Melissa and Doug folding horse stable. We also have an Ikea tent that I"m going to take out soon that I know he'll love.

DS turned 2 in June. Hits from his birthday and other toys I've picked up over the last few months are the cozy coupe, wagon, train set, different food for his kitchen, color wonder markers/coloring books, stella baby, green toys watering can, and play doh play sets. Also, I asked for a few older kid age range books because I was/am so bored with 95% of the books we have.
I think one of those "bikes" with the stick for parents to push would be great. We already have a tricycle that was gifted to us, so we decided not to get one of those, but I think they'd be fun for walks.
AJ just got the Radio Flyer trike from my parents-its the one with a handle on the back, and apparently converts into a balance bike and regular bike. Also big hits are his FB golf set, kid sized basketball hoop, and his ball pit (still-it was a first birthday gift). and his plastic bowling set. And Little People car ramp.
Thanks for posting this; I was just thinking about what to get DD2 (also 2 in Sept) the other day. We already have the vast majority of other stuff listed above with a big sis in the house and we are trying to corral the clutter. I think I'll mention the swim lessons I was already planning on if anybody asks for $$ ideas. Maybe tickets to kids theater? I'm sure I'll get her a few toys and probably clothes and books and maybe a couple of fancier water bottles (lame I know).
These are the hits in our house: 1. Trampoline 2. Dress up clothes(tutus and capes) 3. Games (seek a boo, roll and play, sneaky snacks squirrel) 4. She loves helping me cook so I'm considering a learning tower, but they are so expensive to me.
My plan is to buy her a table and chairs, easel, and play kitchen for Christmas/birthday.

Things my 2 year old likes:
- Ride on toys (any and all) - Cozy Coupe - Duplos -- mostly the sets with animals and stuff - Play food -- the cheap plastic stuff that comes 100 pieces to a box at Target plus nice M&D wooden stuff - Tea sets - Purses and backpacks - Doctor set - Baby dolls - Little figurines -- either the Magic Click or the non-movable from the Disney Store - Musical instruments

Cozy Coupe (she's obsessed) Shopping cart and food Vtech Karaoke machine A birdhouse (it's a Weebles house that she uses these little bird figures in instead of Weebles) Bubbles, stickers, crayons
DD just turned 2. My mom got her a nice M&D easel. One side has a white board and one side has a black board. You can also put paper over either side and color and paint. DD loves it and spends lots of time with it!
She also loves Thomas the Train and got some Thomas train sets and loves those too.
balance bike M&D mailbox - he has a weird mailbox obsession lately realistic cars (opening doors and trunks) food for his kitchen train table and train set more Duplo magnet board with number and letter magnets
DD turns 2 in 3 days, we got her a balance bike and a couple of Minnie Mouse pool toys. She is into puzzles, her easel and dry erase crayons, and her kitchen/play food. She is getting a little blender and toaster for her kitchen from the grandparents. She enjoys coloring and her magnetic Minnie Mouse "paper doll" too.
I am kinda getting the feeling she won't care for the balance bike though because she never uses her other ride on toy.
