Has anyone ever used one? And if so how did you find him/her and was it worth the investment? DH is noticing some patterns at work that he would like to improve on and needs some guidance.
I took a Leadership course that was taught by a series of people that do this kind of consulting; I can see it being useful. Not sure on cost, but looking at Leadership training would be another improvement option.
I took a coaching class (as part of the academic program that the air force is putting me through this year) that was taught by an executive coach who works for the Center for Creative Leadership, and is also a USAF reservist. It sounds like it's a pretty amazing experience for the executives and senior military members on the receiving end of the coaching. Expensive though. Definitely look for someone who hold some kind of coaching certification (Board Certified Coach or International Coaching Federation). A lot of people call themselves "coaches" who really don't have any training whatsoever. You want someone with training, or else you could just be wasting your (or your company's) money.
I don't have direct experience with it but I know this is what MIL does for work. She was a lawyer, then got her MBA because she wanted to do management consulting, then was a SAHM and a few years ago went through a lengthy training/certification process to be an executive coach.

Thank you for this. He is certified by the International Coaching Federation. Happy to know this means something!!!
I attended the Womens Summit at Bryant and a two hour session was included in the session I sat in on. It was a great experience. Part of the prep work was a test and it was great feed back.

I manage the internal coaching program at my organization (we are certified by Lee Hecht Harrison but have been doing it before ICF got cool and going). I also broker the external executive coaches for our VPs and up. Generally we pay about $250 an hour. ICF website has some local referrals usually. Many great coaches also coach by phone if that's an option
I've attended several sessions by Elaine with Circle Spring on leadership coaching and training and been highly impressed. I was a conference co-chair for a couple of years, and we brought her in for training for our group - she's great. Maybe there is something like this in your area?
