Anyways, we've been diagnosed with some slight arthritis in the back knee and base of the small. She said they were very small spots, so she wants us to start on Dasuquin to help his joints. Anyone take this? My friend asked if I was "sure I didn't want the one with MSM"? The doc gave us a big bottle of the regular kind...I assume she'd tell us if we needed MSM, right?
For the record, he's a lab/pit mix who will turn 6 in November. He's been limping for the last week or so, so we went in. She also did some tests and thinks there could be a very small tear in one of his ligaments. So we're on strict rest for 2 months, doggy advil and weekly injections of Aqequan for the next 6-8 weeks. So this is appropriate:
We give our 11 year old lab adequan injections and dasuqin and I can definitely tell a difference for him when he is on it.
I don't know the difference between the regular dasuqin and the ones with MSM in it, I accidentally bought the one with MSM in it last time and didn't see a major difference but our vet did say that there is a new Dasuqin xl that is supposed to be stronger. I did read that the stronger ones are harsher on the stomach, so maybe start out on the basic dasuqin and see how your dog reacts?
Good luck! I get our dasuqin from amazon and the adequan from the vet
And, I feel ya on the doggie ligament woes. We did a TTA surgery on the boxer in my avatar a few years ago when she had a complete tear, and did 2x/weekly laser treatments on her other knee for a year in 2013. She's lucky she's cute!!
My bulldog was on it before she passed away. She had the one with MSM though, I don't even know what that is, that's just what the vet told us to get. I could only order it online after we moved and if it lapsed I noticed a big difference. She functioned like a normal dog with it, if she went a few days without while we waited for it to ship she would be stiff and achy looking. I think that stuff is awesome.
We give dasuquin. Hard to say how helpful it is, as we started giving it as a preventative measure when she was probably 8ish. She didn't develop bad enough arthritis to need other intervention until last year though and she's 13 now. So, who knows? Maybe the dasuquin helped with that.
We also give Dasuquin w/ MSM and it helps our cocker spaniel. I can tell when we don't give it to her. I think we started around age 7 and she's now 11. We get the chewable tablet and she gets 1 with breakfast and 1 with dinner. I think we get it from Pets360. She also just started metacam which is supposed to help even more and it does (prescription only).
