and I'm telling you this video was different. And of course I recognize there could be editing.
there is evidence in this particular video that a physician was interested in entering into an agreement that would have violated the laws to sell body parts. However as already written, the person said she'd have to escalate it because all the PPs have to have the same practice. But she also said if it could be worked out some way with the attorneys, and she was sure it probably could, she was interested.
This was exploring greater compensation than that or "we can pay you a certain amount that you could, you know, classify like that, right? to make it look like that." And the physician was agreeable.
But I'm still bothered that a physician that should know better didn't just shut down the conversation and say, "you know, it seems like you are trying to skirt an issue here with your proposed business venture, and PP is not about that. We aren't looking to profit from the sale of fetal tissue. There are costs associated with it, but we only get reimbursed to cover the costs and are not looking to profit. Your proposal is making me uncomfortable. Get the hell out."
You should be bothered by it too. PP should be bothered by it and their leaders and employees probably are. and they are probably doing inhouse training right now. The physician I saw was flirting with the idea of something that was unethical and borderline illegal. Doesn't mean PP as a whole did something wrong. But I'm bothered by it. I'm not going to apologize for that or be made to feel ridiculous for that.
"I know putting it under the research gives us a little bit of a, a little sort of a overhang over the whole thing," Ginde says. "And in public I think it makes a lot more sense for it to be in the research vein, than I'd say, business venture."
Ginde said all Planned Parenthood clinics communicate to handle fetus organs and tissue uniformly to protect themselves legally."We have to know who else is doing this," she said. "Because if you have someone in a really anti state that's going to be doing this for you, they're probably going to get caught."
Ginde told the actors that Planned Parenthood has conversations with their attorneys about how best to prevent the nonprofit from breaking the law.
"We talked to him in the beginning, you know. We were like 'We don't want to get called on, you know, selling fetal parts across states. So how do we protect ourselves from that?'"
Cowart said Planned Parenthood lawyers declined to enter into a contract with the individuals pretending to be researchers after seeing the contract.
"Our legal counsel provided line item edits to their proposed contract where we again clarified that we would strictly adhere to laws. Our staff asked probing questions about their process and didn't enter into an agreement when those questions weren't answered," she said.
This? This is what you're talking about? This lady saying we need to know if anyone else is doing this to see if it's allowable? The lady who specifically says we can't sell bodies and needs to be sure that what is proposed is permissible? No, Michelle, I'm not bothered by it, and no, I shouldn't be.
I want to understand your thought process. I really do. An extremist group whose partner runs OR, of which Tiller's murderer was a member-- a group that has stalked, targeted, and harassed doctors and published years of lies about abortion-- made 3 other edited propaganda videos (well, 4 now) besides this one, all of which are roundly debunked legally and factually... But you're like "THIS MIGHT BE THE ONE, GUYZ"?
The fact that you credit them at all is a nice little victory for the antis.
I used them in high school for birth control as I didn't want my parents to know. I used them again in college for another reason and after that went on insurance and switched to an OB.
It is despicable they want to reduce funding. But, I also fucking hate how they stand outside the building with signs, bible passages and yell. When I went in college I was literally in tears by the time I made it in the building. The PP was in Center City Philly where there is no where else to stand except on the sidewalk fucking outside the front door; it truly was horrible. I was called a baby killer and other shit.
Anyway, I don't understand how people do not know that Planned Parenthood offers a ton of services and I think the stats stated only 1% of their practice is performing abortions.
What also kills me is that Planned Parenthood is not the only place to have abortions. Quite a bit of OB/GYNS also perform the procedure but the anger is only focused on PP.
I used them for plan B and BC in undergrad. The PP in my college town didn't even do abortions. But, the protestors called Plan B the abortion pill (which it isn't) and picketed anyway. They also picketed the little clinic that PP referred people to for abortions.
I used them in college and possibly for a few years afterwards when I was low-income. I also recommended them to my retired GOP parents when my mom needed an IUD and her insurance wouldn't cover it. I don't think they availed themselves of the services. LOL.

I agree about most of the videos I saw, including a lady talking about abortion over lunch and how that may seem distasteful so is talking about cancer treatment, etc.
I went off to try to find the video I saw this weekend. It was different from the ones that had been coming into my regular news feed. It was like someone was trying to craft an arrangement that was more than just compensation for the administrative and packaging costs of the fetal material for research. It was a discussion about a "new business venture." Or an expanded business venture with this interested party that went beyond research. And the physician was into it, as opposed to the lady with the fluffy hair video where she was just talking pragmatically about what the process and restrictions are. (ETA couldn't find - I think it is restricted at work).
Now the physician in question in the video I am referencing, who was having the conversation did say that she would have to review it with higher ups and PP has to have a uniform practice and she cannot just go on her own. So there was hope there. I'm curious about what actions took place after that. Did PP say, "Um, no doc - that is a violation of XYZ statute so we aren't going there," vs. "oooh that is a creative way to get around the law and increase our revenue stream!" ETA the propagandists obviously want people to believe the latter.
The first is what I expect and hope happened. (eta - I expect that is what happened because my experience with PP is that they are reputable, ethical in their practice, and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt). The second is what could get them put on the excluded parties list. I haven't yet read up on the "reasoning" the GOP is trying to use to get them defunded.
Also, how they educated and/or disciplined the physician in question if it was determined the person overstepped policy and authority and pursued the issue outside the bounds of her authority is of interest and speaks to the PP practices.
I haven't, but please keep in mind that this board leans quite wealthy compared to the general population. Also liberal, but I don't think it's enough to cancel out the wealthy.
We are about 60% needing PP services and 40% not needing.... So I don't think I understand your point?
Also I'm assuming the 300 plus people who have voted are not all active or even regular or semi regulars of the board.

I used them when I didn't have insurance for my yearly exams in college and grad school. None of the locations where I went even offered abortion services, yet there were always protesters outside.
I had my abortion (years and years later) through a regular OB/Gyn.
59% of women who responded needed to use Planned Parenthood at some point in life.
I'm leaving this admittedly non scientific result here in case some GOP intern flunky starts poking around the interwebs.
To the GOP: when you speak of "defunding" Planned Parenthood, you are talking about hurting almost 60% of women. Think of that next time you go trolling for our votes.

I went at age 16 when I was living with my grandma. I had a boyfriend and wanted to get on birth control before having sex for the first time. I knew that I didn't want to get pregnant and wanted to use more than condoms.
My friend taught me how to use the city bus and planned parenthood gave me an exam and prescription on a sliding scale. It was wonderful. I continued to go there until I graduated from college.
If it wasn't locked, you'd need to add my vote to Yes. Plus my two adult daughters, for a total of three more votes. That bumps us up to 59.8% have used and appreciate PP.

I didn't see this question until you linked it to me today.
So that quote of conversation does sound like part of the video I saw. I'm not sure where you got this text - do you have a link so I can read it in entirety?
When you have someone explaning the narration vs. how it went down in the video, it comes across differently. Ultimately the part in red is what I said I was hoping for in "corporate's" reply after the physician forwarded the opportunity on, and that based on my prior experience with PP it is what I'd expect. So that makes me feel a lot better about how PP handled it. Of course all of that is left out of the video.
If you have a link for this text I'd like to take it back to the person who posted the video on FB.
