Apparently Glamma isn't alone. This just popped up in my fb feed.
I think it was coined by Nene Leakes.
It would drive me nuts if my grandkid called me by my first name.
No. I think it was around for YEARS before Nene started using it. My DS called his grandfather " Tony" FOREVER. Honestly he is a big grump and just kinda like grandma's body guard/ driver in a sense. It took a while to convince DS to start calling him " Grandpa Tony"

DD calls my mother by her first name. She just picked it up based on what other adults were calling her. She also calls my dad "Papi," which earns me a lot of funny looks in my very Hispanic neighborhood if we're out and about with just my dad.

I'm confused. Are you thinking Nene coined the term to have her grand kids call her by her first name? I think @246baje was saying Nene coined the term Glam-ma. That's definitely where I heard it and I kind of love her for it! She is for sure the definition of a glam-ma!

No. I am saying I heard the term Glam-ma like 10 plus years ago PRIOR to NeNe Leakes being on television. Like it was a sort of commonly said thing and I even saw it on tchotckes and the like at gift stores.
I love NeNe. I will give her all the credit in the world for her famous lines " Close your legs to married men" and " Bloop" but I swear I have heard this term for a LONG time.
When I was pregnant, my Mom was looking at some website for Grandparents (like The Bump for Grandparents), and there was a list of names to be called, including Glamma. Im thankful she was joking when she said DD would call her that, and instead is called Gigi.

Ah okay that makes sense. It's hard to tell with how things format on here sometimes!
Elijah refuses to call her Grandma, Glamma or anything like that. He uses her first name and it drives her nuts.
Why do you allow him to do it if she doesn't like it?
He turned 2 three days ago. He doesn't know what he is doing. We tell him Grandma over and over, but he goes with Bobbie, which he must have overheard.

LOL, I was going to say "Have you ever tried to get a 2yo to do what YOU want?"
I'm surprised SMIL hasn't tried to get AJ to call her something like that, it's totally up her alley. Especially since AJ doesn't really refer to her as anything, which I know bugs her but neither J nor I are okay with him calling her Grandma or something like that for a number of reasons-I could see her pushing for Glamma and saying "Oh but it's so cute! And that way I'm kind of Grandma but kind of not! Hehehe where's my drink?"

Yeah, I was kinda WTF about that comment, too. He's 2, good luck, lol!

"Bobbie" is close to the Jewish/Yiddish term "Bubbe!"

Your first post sounded like you never corrected him which I think is disrespectful. What you explained here is super common. I can't see sigs so I don't know how old your kids are.
