I would cover it tightly with foil and reheat and then put it under the broiler for a bit. I prefer to reheat things in the oven because then it is uniformly hot and does not cool off as quickly.
If your H prefers his casseroles burnt than I don't think you should worry about your technique too much
Just teasing. Put it in the microwave for about 30 sec to get it started and then put it on the oven on broil to get the top crispy. Just keep an eye on it because it can go quick under the broiler.
Browned cheese is the way casseroles are made to be eaten

This... add a bit more sauce if you have it. You can also add more cheese to the top before you broil it. Cheese makes everything better

You can throw it back into the oven but I'd add some more sauce and cheese and once it's heated through, throw it under the broiler for a few to get the 'burnt' edges
