I went to the dentist today and they want me to come back in a couple weeks for a deep cleaning. They will be using anesthesia, so I need to call my doctor to find out how long I have to wait before nursing again. If you had something similar how long before you could nurse? I'm not thrilled about having to pump, dump, and bottle feed.
I looked up the drugs in the index of Nursing Mother's Companion and it listed how long you need to be out for. Basically it says once you're awake and functioning the anesthesia is out of your system but you can pump and dump that first one if you want. The 24 hour rule is kind of not necessary.
When I had my gallbladder out I didn't pump and dump at all and it was fine. DD wasn't even sleepy (unfortunately?) and it's been over 2 years so I would say there haven't been any side effects.

Anyone else's two/almost three year old just shut down when s/he is upset? My child for the past few months, will shit down, want 'nothing'... It's so frustrating.
For example, today's meltdown occurred when I was reading him a story and his little brother crawled over and sat next to us. He went to the corner and cried. I explained that DS2 could listen too. I finished the story where I had been sitting with him being able to hearing and DS2 listening. Then said I was going to prepare lunch. This ended up being a 45 minute ordeal of how he either wouldn't answer what he wanted to eat (won't touch what I made him) and wanted 'nothing'.
We've had a ton of company he town and I know he's exhausted. But in worried for the teenage years. I don't yell at him, most I speak to him about his feeling options and he finally started taking when I told him if he didn't want to eat that was okay, but it was time for nap. Then he said plum and yogurt.
So this will just be local and it should totally be fine? Phew. I love you all!
I think local will be even better. My pediatrician gave me the example that Brie used and said they wouldn't encourage nursing after C sections if it was a problem. The only issue I've heard was someone's baby had a reaction to the antibiotics the mom was given but you shouldn't even have that problem. Good luck!! I hate dental work!
