H and I were planning on going to indonesia for december, but ticket prices have gone up so much I made him look at prices for egypt, and ticket prices aren't bad
I don't think it's realistic, but we're currently daydreaming about it!
Ummmm you should totally come! Because realistically all you need to afford is a ticket. It is so cheap to do everything here!!! We just did a fallucca on the Nile yesterday (a sail boat) and it costs a total of 100le with tip, which comes to roughly $17 but we split it between everyone who was with us and we literally paid $4 to take a sailboat down the Nile. Food is also very cheap. And if you stay with us, you won't pay hotel. You could come with like $500 spending money and you would be able to do and buy plenty.
Would you bring bjl? That would be one thing to think about, because there are no carseats in this country. literally. I have never seen a child in a carseat. It actually doesn't bug me, because although the driving is crazy, it really works for them. They have a system down and it just flows. But I know, as a Western parent, that would be terrifying to go anywhere without my baby in a carseat.
eta: also, even if you come when I am working, we have a driver who will take you around to do touristy things and he will stay with you all day. He is great and he speaks English. All the teachers hire him to take their family out for the day if they come when they are working. Plus, that would mean you guys could enjoy Egypt just the two of you too, instead of having me with you all the time. Unless you would want that. I know we've talked on here about taking vacations with friends and I know sometimes you (not you personally, general you) just want to spend time on your own on vacation. Let me know, we would love you have you and help you plan a vacation here!!!
h keeps crushing my dreams. i told him about how cheap it was, limited time we have to visit, how you have a DRIVER to take us around (and no car seats are common in asia...so as much as i hate it, i'd have to deal with it)...he says we need to go to indonesia and/or china before egypt because we need to visit family. urgh.
throughout the next 2 (right?) years, though, i WILL convince him to go
Aww sad. But I understand. Yes, two years! And feel free to come at any time of the year, although in the summer, we may be gone traveling ourselves. We may even extend our contract. We are loving it so much, that I am pretty sure, unless I hate teaching here or something, we will stay longer.
