I was wondering how they were going to fit everything in, but I thought they did well at twisting things just a bit so as to avoid too much explanation. Like the mockingjay pin, and the three fingered salute. All in all I really enjoyed it. I confess I cried when Rue died. However, Peeta was not attractive enough. He should be taller. And I was hoping for more detail/ variety in the Capital residents' costumes as described in the book. They were all just variations on the same outfit.
I saw it in the theater and really didn't like it much then. I felt it left too much out and I didn't like the changes that it made to the storyline. I watched it again tonight and while I liked it better I still had issues with the storyline. I too think Peeta wasn't cast correctly.
Ok! Well, casting-wise I didn't mind any of it. I thought they did a pretty adult version of the arena despite that they were making it for the g-pop/tweens. I saw it opening day at the theatre so I've forgotten a lot. I think I'll convince my husband to get it on ppv soon so I can see it again!

I loved it. I never expect movies to be exactly like the books- if I did, I would hate movies. I was comparing the 2 for the first 10 minutes, and then I had to tell myself to stop it or I won't enjoy it. I cried a lot. I ugly cried when Rue died. I didn't get the same "love" for Gale in the movie as I did in the book. He seemed more like family in the movie than the love interest he was in the book. Peeta should have been taller- but he was cuter than Gale, so that's all that's important
I expected the Capital to me more over the top, but that didn't convey to me either. I was expecting the scenes in the Arena to be a lot more gruesome- but was happy that it wasn't as bad as I expected.
I think it's hard to translate a very internal dialogue filled book to the movie screen. I was satisfied enough, and I am excited to see the other movies.

The way I pictured Gale and Peeta was basically backward of how they cast them for the movies. The guy that played Gale: tall, handsome, strong looking, is how I pictured Peeta. The guy that played Peeta: shorter, sweeter looking, is how I pictured Gale. I don't know if what I typed makes sense, but basically I thought they needed to swap roles.
I enjoyed the movie, and also cried at Rue's death scene. But like almost any book turned movie, the book was so much better.
Did ya'll read the whole series? Anyone else disappointed with how book three ended?

*********spoiler alert for series*********
YES! I was so pissed at the end of book 3. I had gotten the series from the library, and thought for sure that the last chapter had been ripped out. It's not that I wanted the ending wrapped in a pretty package, but I feel like the Katniss & Peeta relationship deserved much more than a paragraph. I'm still bitter (unclench weenie!), but it really soured the series for me. It's as if she had a publishing deadline, so she killed everyone off and jotted some thoughts down. . . then asked for her paycheck.
I'm holding onto the hope that Veronica Roth won't do that to me!

I KNOW! Honestly, after I finished the last book, I was moping for a good three days about it. All the character and relationship development the whole series, and me being torn on who I wanted her to end up with.... And then, nothing. Sooo disappointed.
Oh, and in addition to being bummed on how poorly they wrapped up katniss/Peeta/gale, I thought it was a total cop out that they had her locked up (or was she unconscience, I don't remember, it's been awhile) during her her trial thing so that the reader had no clue what happened. It felt like the writer was so lazy at the end.
I don't think either book 2 or 3 were as good as the first book and the ending of 3 annoyed me too. That being said I just rewatched the movie last night and loved it. The movie was able to show more perspectives than Katniss' first person narrative so I liked that a lot. I would have even liked it to be longer and showed more of the games but I think they did a good job condensing it.

I read the books after I saw the first movie. I liked the casting of Peeta and Gale, but maybe it's because I saw the movie first. I agree, the ending in the third sucked.
