I was seriously disappointed in DS's Keens this year. I bought them in April/May and just threw them away. The straps were completely unraveling. They were NOT made well.
The only solution for the velcro not working is to clean out the hard portion (just use your fingers/nails to try and grab all the stuff in it). If that doesn't work, you'll need to sew on a new soft portion. With that much wear, the little loops on the soft portion of the velcro have probably all been pulled out and you can't really fix that.
This happened to DD's last year. I used a comb to clean out the hard part. The other thing I did was use a small hair tie to keep the straps together. It sort of worked.
Don't tell me this! I just ordered Keens for DS3 because I'm so sick of re-velcroing the cheap sandals he is currently wearing that replaced a pair of worn hand-me-downs.

I have had the problem when the kids had fuzzy carpet. I just take a needle and run it under to get out the lint. We have had dozens of pairs, and all have held up well enough to be passed along.

Yes. I bought them this year, and the "soft" side of the Velcro was completely missing within the first month. I think it must have peeled off the shoe. It's on both feet. I tried to return them, but the store wouldn't take them back. I looked on the Keens website to contact them directly, but the site said all issues were to be handled through the retailers.
Considering how expensive they are, I'm seriously let down.
