Someone just sent me this. I HATE the idea that my son's sports hero might have done this. I HATE that if this turns out to be true, hockey is going to be ruined for me because ASSHOLES WILL DEFEND HIM AND I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO DEAL WITH THAT! And I HATE that there may be yet another young victim out there. WHAT THE FUCK PATRICK KANE? Velar Fricative
Star Chicago Blackhawks player and Stanley Cup hero Patrick Kane is the target of a rape investigation in his hometown, reports The Buffalo News, citing two law enforcement sources.
The 26-year-old Kane is under investigation by Hamburg Police in South Buffalo. He owns a home in Hamburg, where police were seen Sunday night. The alleged sexual assault took place last weekend, the sources told The Buffalo News, and Kane’s accuser went to a hospital where a rape-kit examination and tests were performed.
A WKBW Eyewitness News in Buffalo report, citing sources, suggests the incident began at a bar in Evans over the weekend. Plainclothes detectives in three unmarked cars went to Kane’s home Sunday night, neighbors told the Chicago Tribune, and went into the house with flashlights. One wore gloves and was taking photographs.
Kane is expected to present himself to police for questioning, according to News reporter Tim Graham, again citing law enforcement sources.
The chief of the Erie County District Attorney’s Special Victims Bureau, Roseanne Johnson, has been assigned to the case. The investigation initially was described as a “statutory rape” case. The age of the accuser is unknown, and police have been ordered not to comment publicly on the case at all.
“We can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of a criminal investigation until such a time as a person is charged with a crime,” Hamburg Police Chief Gregory G. Wickett has told reporters.
Kane has not been arrested or charged.
This coming weekend, Kane was scheduled to bring the Stanley Cup to his hometown. Kane has been with the Blackhawks for all three of the team’s NHL championships. In Game 6 this year, Kane scored the decisive second goal in the third period. He performed well throughout the postseason.
Kane, who has had a girlfriend for the last three years, has gotten into trouble in the past for immature and criminal behavior. In 2009, he was arrested in Buffalo when he and a relative got into an fight with a cab driver. Accused of punching the cabbie, Kane eventually pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. Embarrassing photos of him partying have been posted on the Internet for years, much to the displeasure of Blackhawks management.
He admitted he needed ”to grow up a little bit.”
This spring, Kane was featured in one of the Chicago Blackhawks’ popular #WhatsYourGoal videos. Kane delivered pizzas to a Downers Grove fire station on behalf of an Oak Forest woman, Courtney O’Leary, who nominated her firefighter husband Kevin O’Leary and his fellow firefighters for the honor.
“It’s an honor for me to come down here,” Kane said as he dished out slices.
Last year, the four-time all-star signed an eight-year contract extension with the Blackhawks.
“I was obviously grateful for the trust and the faith and support given to me by the organization and the front office, and even my teammates, as well,” Kane said at the time. “I think everyone kind of goes through their different maturation process and maybe mine was a little delayed compared to other guys.”
The Blackhawks released a statement Thursday afternoon: “We are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
I read this article early and saw that. They are confusing the two.
With that said. I hope it's not true. But uh. I wouldn't be surprised totally either? He has a history of not making the best choices while drinking. Surprisingly I haven't seen too many defenders yet on fb (I'm from south buffalo). Most people just saying he's not guilty yet etc Etc.

I recognize the name, but don't follow hockey, but I agree with NewOrleans that I hate to think there is another victim out there and a sports "role model" who sexually assaulted her.
I follow the Buffalo News on FB and it's pretty much the worst of humanity on a daily basis. People are defending his ass right and left, and calling for the victim to be named, since he hasn't been charged yet. Because when he is charged, you can totally take back the name of the victim...
The article that the news released with the Croce interview was ridiculous. Croce is a fucking douche to begin with. I can't believe they even printed his words.
Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita III has repeatedly declined to discuss the case. Last week — on the day Kane addressed reporters — he announced to his staff that he would seek a position on the state Supreme Court. The widely expected decision means Sedita would step down by the end of the year.
Just want to clarify something because the way it's written leaves ample room for an inference that just isn't there. In NY the Supreme Court is your basic, every day court that tries cases. It is not an appellate court or the highest court in the state. The DA is running for judge. He is not trying to get appointed to the Court of Appeals. So if he's elected in November he'll be stepping down as DA. He's not in a position to be trading favors in order to get a bigger and better statewide job.
That being said, the Erie County legal profession is small and pretty incestuous. I feel the need to contact some friends and see what the scuttlebutt on this is.
I am also kind of curious as to why the accuser has hired the particular attorney she did. AFAIK he's all criminal defence. I don't think his firm even handles civil matters.

I'm so confused.
I think it would be SUPER FECKING STRANGE if the bag showed up on the doorstep, but I could believe it happened, I guess. The whole case has been weird as hell. However, I do not think the bag weirdness had anything to do with Kane. That is, someone who is a hockey fan, someone who hoped to be able to call in a favor, etc. may have jacked it up, but I don't think that points to Patrick Kane's involvement in making that weirdness happen.
Note: I have no idea what to think about guilt or not for the assault. All I'm saying is that I don't believe Kane tampered with evidence or paid anyone to do it.

I don't really know much about this, but happened to read an article on deadspin about the DNA evidence about a week ago (I think). But at that time, the evidence was that there was no DNA evidence from the rape kit that tied him to the victim. So, just based on that, it'd be weird if he had any role in this current stuff with the evidence because a week ago, that evidence was good for him. Why tamper with it? If anything, it would hurt him/his claim of innocence (at least that's how it seems to me).

My assumption also was that it wasn't him. I could easily see some superfan working in a lab doing this.
The Buffalo News, citing four sources familiar with the case, including a law enforcement source, first reported the DNA results, noting that Kane’s DNA was found on the alleged victim’s shoulder and under her fingernails, but not on her genitals or undergarments. A source also confirmed the results to the Chicago Sun-Times.
This whole thing just seems really fishy to me. Erie County is saying that all evidence is still in their possession as it has been since Hamburg handed it over in the first place. So someone left a dummy rape kit on her porch and her attorney happily displayed something with her name on it at a press conference. Speaking of which, why has she hired a criminal defense attorney in the first place? This whole thing is just weird.

Gotcha. I remember now reading that but the article I read seemed to say that could happen with casual contact. Idk enough about that to say one way or the other though. It probably depends on what was under her nails or how much or something? Deadspin is usually pretty harsh but I left the article with the impression that the nail DNA wasn't a big deal?
I will try to C&P the article I read on the Buffalo News this morning later, but the jist of it was that Erie County rape kits are kept in boxes, not bags. A bag was given to the accuser's mother at the hospital to collect her shirt for evidence. That bag was not turned in. It seems the mom brought the same bag to the accuser's attorney saying that she had found it on her front porch. The attorney has since dropped the accuser as a client.

Whoa.
The Da is beyond pissed off. He held a press conference where he showed everyone what the boxes Erie County stores it's rape kits in looks like and then read a copy of the evidence log from the kit in question.
