We're going on a cruise with my brother and his family, sailing out of Galveston on November 1. SIL and I were talking about maybe flying in on the 30th and finding something fun to do for Halloween. Does anyone know of anything fun to do? We'll have a 7, 3, 11 month and 6 month old kids with us. I think we'll be flying into Hobby but haven't purchased flights yet.
Can I piggy back? My parents are cruising out of Galveston the Sunday after thanksgiving and planning to drive from us in the Dallas area. Her forum says to expect it to take 6+ hours bc of Houston traffic to the beach.
That's insane right?
Is the 6 hours from Dallas to here? (Well Galveston?) 6 hours from Houston to Galveston is a no. I'm trying to remember last time I drive to Dallas (Sherman) it took about 4 hours. I think 6 would be the most it could take. namasteak might know more specifically.

Yes, and we're actually an hourish south of Dallas, so should be closer to 3 hours really.
Galveston is about an hour south of Houston though, so it is probably 4 hours normally from your house to Galveston. I don't typically drive during the holidays, but I wouldn't be surprised if the traffic between Dallas and Houston added at least an hour to the trip. Traffic added a little more than an hour to our trip from Houston to New Orleans over the weekend. If I was trying to catch a cruise, I wouldn't want to play it close. There's plenty to do in Galveston for a couple hours if it doesn't take longer.

It takes us 4 hours to get from West Houston to my moms lake house (which is about 30 minutes east of you). I would plan on it taking them 5 hours to get there since traffic to/from Galveston can be bad especially on weekends &/or holidays.
Eta - since its a weekend AND a holiday it may take 6 hours. But since they want to get there early I think they would be fine planning on 5. Leaving your house at a not entirely unpleasant 7:30 should have them at the ship around 12:30 which still gives them 2.5 hours buffer.
