It is not standard. I did not have one for DS. I did have one for DD 2 hours before she was born to confirm she was in fact frank breech and check whether her chin was tucked properly for a vaginal breech birth.
Yes. DS liked to sleep through NSTs & THEN wake up ' get all playful during the ultrasound. The nurse said he was going to be a " great sleeper, but a hellion when he is awake" she NAILED it.
Also I went over 40 weeks & they did a ( Suprisingly accurate) growth ultrasound where he was 8lbs 15 Ozs at 40 weeks & was born at 41 weeks 4 days at 9lbs 6 Ozs
I had to have growth ultrasounds in the last week or two with both # 2 and 3 because they were worried the babies would be abnormally small (which is weird to me considering one was over nine lbs at birth and the other was well over eight).
I got a second A/S at MFM due to a marking they had been concerned about at 22 weeks. Then at 32 weeks I just had a growth ultrasound due to them thinking she was really big, she wasn't.
I had my a/s at 18 weeks, and have already had a 2nd a/s at 22 weeks to see a few things that they couldn't see in the first a/s. My practice also does standard growth u/s's at 32 weeks. That will be my 5th u/s.

I had a growth ultrasound at about 32 weeks because I'd had surgery at 14 weeks and my ADVANCED MATERNAL AGE. (In all caps because of how my practice kept making such a big damn deal about me being 35 years old.)
They aren't standard in my practice beyond the anatomy scan, but I got one with my first at 37 weeks because I was measuring 3 weeks ahead. They wanted to make sure she wasn't gigantic (which she wasn't; just me). I measured the same with my second, but I guess at that point, my OB realized I was just an enormous pregnant woman and didn't order a growth u/s.
I had an additional one with my first at 30 weeks. My fundal height was measuring high. She was fine and I loved seeing her chubby cheeks.
Then I had another one the day I was induced (scheduled because my BP was creeping up) and that's where they measured my fluid as super low, thus leading to the induction.
I didn't have any ultrasounds after the anatomy scans with the boys (although I got peeks earlier on, before 19-20 weeks, with both of them).
I had ultrasounds 1-2x per week from 20 weeks on. I was high risk due to congenital heart defects, and went into preterm labor with a short service at like 27 weeks.
Nope for ds1 and so far no for this one. My ob doesn't think it's necessary since my a/s was normal, blood pressure and all other vitals are fine, and we know baby is head down (she was excitedly telling me she was giving him a scalp massage during my cervical check. Much less exciting for me). My fundal height has been right on target so no growth scans either. Boring!
DS1 was measuring small at 35 weeks, so she wanted to check it out. u/s revealed he was actually huge, but my fluid was low. A week of over-hydrating and another u/s and I was given the all-clear. (He was 10lb+ at birth...apparently he was just hiding well!)
I had none with DD1, but 6 with DD2 (different doctors).
First, I was measuring small. DD ended up being right on target, but the scan revealed high amniotic fluid (so why my belly was small, I don't know). I had ultrasounds every week until I was back in the normal range. Then, when I went past my due date, the midwife wanted ultrasounds and NSTs every three days. I had no complications, so it seems excessive to me, but I'm thankful for a healthy baby.

It sucks being high-risk, but after going through two pregnancies with tons of u/s, I can't imagine only seeing the baby/babies once.
Related question: if you have a normal a/s, does your OB just assume your cervix is normal length until you go into labor/deliver? Do they worry about your cervical length after your a/s or is it not brought up until delivery?
Just curious since my cervix always measured short at my a/s and was the start of my troubles. I never thought about the fact that some women never get it measured after the a/s.
