So, DH and I agree on our top 3 names. However, we have them in different order of preference -- we have different favorites but the same compromise name. If you and your SO had different top names, did you end up going with: - one of your favorite names - your compromise name
With DD my name won. H just didn't care that much in the end basically.
With DS we ended up with a comrpromise name. We were both just too in opposite directions in boy name taste otherwise. The fifth one down the list was a cute name to us but really neither of our boy name styles so we called it a win and went with it.
DH and I had very different lists. HIs top choice - his reasons for liking the name were compelling. I sat on it for awhile and eventually decided to go with the name he chose.
We have the same. I think we'll go with the compromise. I am 99% sure I don't want his name.
I was the one who suggested his name! I LOVE my choice but worry about popularity (Theodore/Teddy). His choice I really like but worry it's too polarizing (Harvey). I like but don't love the compromise name (Frederick/Freddy) but it doesn't have any negatives to it. You will be happy Paul is the front-runner middle name
I'd pick the compromise name. Although given that you both like all 3, I don't think you can go wrong. This was not by design, but we had 2 names for both kids before they were born (our individual top picks). We picked the name when we met them. It was EASY both times. We looked at each and said you're X. DD got my top pick, DS got H's, but we both agree now the other name wouldnt have suited them as well.

What's the popularity concern with Theodore? If you like the NN Teddy, you could go with Edward as the name. Not a big fan of Harvey.

He won't do Edward at all. Theodore is close to top 100 and rising, which concerns me. I feel like Teddy is less of a popular nickname than Theo, though. It's also a distant 3rd choice name for DH, he doesn't love it like I do but he doesn't have strong objections to it. His preference is definitely for Harvey, he likes Frederick and is okay with Theodore.

That's interesting, I wouldn't have guessed it to be so popular! I love that name though. Ted/teddy is a great NN. I hear lots of Theo but always thought that was their name. How did he pick Harvey to go along with Frederick and Theodore?!!
I love all of these names so I don't think you can go wrong. We went with a "compromise" name. He wanted Nora and I loved Greta, we decided on Stella. We both love it.

We went with our compromise pretty much. But we didn't know until we were on the way to the hospital. It was down to 2, and we turned to each other and said Claire, right? On the way there. Ugh, we always pick the popular names right before they get popular! (Problem in our case because our last name is Smith, with tons of Smiths in our area.)
We each had veto power over names we didn't like, which is why she isn't my favorite (Eliza.)
Henry was a compromise name. And we used my husband's first name as a compromise middle name. In my own I probably would have picked Luke or Lucas Everett. I love the name we chose though.
Victoria would have been girl's name with my middle name. This was DH's top choice. I really like it and he wasn't going to budge. Vivian is my favorite.
I wasn't that worried about popularity. I think Henry is #30 or so. My name was #3 the year I was born and it's been fine.

After all I went through with pregnancy and delivery, I felt like I had an extra vote so to speak. I would never insist on a name my DH hates but if he liked my favorite name, we went with that. My DH is also very easy to work with on pretty much everything. We took turns on picking middle names (all named for family members). Some of my kids have real dozy middle names but I am fine with it.

I suggested Harvey and he jumped on it. My absolute favorite boy name is Avery, but I have admitted it has gone to the girls now. I feel like Harvey is very close to Avery. I actually think Harvey, Frederick and Theodore are all very similar in style -- 1930s peak, popular in the UK and France, a hint of Southern.
I suggested 1,356 names that Dh rejected. He was willing to consider Ruby, May, or June. He then decided he didn't like Ruby and suggested Clara. I loved Clara but felt we should go with a name I suggested after all the work I'd done. I picked May, which I love love love and he likes. I said if we had another girl she would be Clara, so that is dd2's name. Dd1 has my grandma's name for a middle and dd2 has his grandmas name for the mn.

Compromise.
He wanted Henry. I wanted Graham. We got Benjamin.
We went with a compromise name. H really wanted to name DS after himself, but I was 100% against it. It is also FIL's name and there have been so many mix-ups with just the two of them, I really didn't want to throw a third into the mix. Most of the names I suggested were vetoed by H (Luke, James, and Oliver were my favorites), so eventually we settled on a name we were both ok with. We didn't make the final decision until after DS was born and we had to fill out paperwork for him.

DH chose DS1's name after vetoing all my favorites. I liked it fine, so agreed to it. Then I suggested DS2's name and after vetoing initially, he decided he loved it too. So we each got one of our favorites.
Dd1 is a compromise name though it's very close to my first choice name.
Dd2, I gave him a list of 55 names I liked and he crossed through all but 5 of them. So I said fine, I am choosing from what is left. It was like his fourth favorite of the five and he insisted we continue to discuss it, but I just started calling her by name and it stuck. Lol.

We went with H's top name for her first and my top name for her middle. We decided the order because even though I loved my top choice more than he loved his top choice, he also disliked my choice more than I disliked his. Therefore it was the name combination that made the most sense.
H had a favorite girl name, I had a favorite boy name. We were both fine with each other's favorite name and couldn't come up with an alternative. It really came down to what we were having. We had a boy, so I got to use my name choice. We'll use his if we have a girl in the future. If we have another boy? Lord help us. We could only agree on one boy name and that took a couple of years (seriously).
We went with H's pick. It was a name I initially liked and then changed my mind. He cared more, so I caved. Now, I can't imagine any other name-h was right!

It was H's pick. He doesn't compromise, lol.
But I didn't have a favorite first name. We started the name discussion really early and the name was H's clear favorite and I liked it, so done. And it meant I got the middle name I wanted.
Peter was a compromise in the sense that it would not have been my first pick for a boy's name. But DH liked it and I did too and that was enough. Lol. I don't regret it but there are other names I would have picked if he hadn't have been so damn picky.
With DS1, it was a family name and DH vetoed ALL my suggestions. It took until the delivery for me to be able to accept it but now it's 100% his name. This time, he didn't like any of mine but only vetoed ones he had an intense dislike for (including Theodore, wahhhhhhhh).
My DH picked out DD1s name (Wilhelmina) but I chose the nickname. Same with DD4. Actually DD3 too....wait a minute here, I guess I'm the compromiser in the family. He's a tricky (stubborn) one. I do say I only really love DD2 name (full version & nickname) which we agreed to right away & both loved.
I was staunchly against his boy name (Garret) but I never got to use that veto power.
DD's name was a compromise. We both liked it, but it wasn't either of our favorites. However, I didn't like his favorite, and he didn't like mine, so neither of us was willing to give in.

I gave DH my top three name combinations, and he picked from those, once our son was born. Since he gets the last name, I get one name that I wanted from my family, then the other name we had to agree on. We had three that we both liked, but couldn't decide until we met the little guy.
