Last Sunday when dd2 spiked a fever dd1 had a friend over To play. She was here for 2 hours. The next day dd2 was diagnosed with hfm. Well this friend just came down with it and is turning 5 tomorrow and had to cancel her bday party for tomorrow. So now little girl friend is sick and has a postponed bday party, dd1 is sad she can't go and I feel terrible! Dd2 woke up from her nap with a fever just as the friend got here. Maybe I should have called and asked her mom to pick her up bc the baby had a fever. I didn't know what was wrong with her though, just that she was warm. Ahhh
Does the friend know DD2 is the source of her DD's HFM? If not, don't tell her!
I probably would have cancelled the play date because of the fever, but I get it- it is so hard to make that call, especially when your older daughter was looking forward to it. At the end of the day, kids get sick though. I wouldnt feel guilty about that. Would it make you feel better to know that DS took out our whole immediate family, my mom, our nanny and our nanny share family with a stomach bug? He had really mild symptoms so I didn't realize he was actually sick until it was too late. I paid for that one though when DD threw up all over her bed. Lol.

Oh gosh stomach bugs are the worst! Yeah I told her monday after she was diagnosed. I would have totally cancelled but she was already here when I realized she was warm. Never again.
Awww, that sucks. If you didn't notice DD2's fever until after DD1's friend was there, though, there's not much you really could have done to prevent it.
Eh, it happens. It's not like you infected the kid on purpose, and calling for an early pick-up probably wouldn't have changed the result. The germs were already all over your house, where she was already playing. Feel sorry for the situation, but don't beat yourself up over it.

Exactly. Kids are little Petri dishes- comes with the territory.
It happens, I don't know I would have done anything differently. Sometimes babies get warm for no real reason, room too warm, teething, etc. You never know when it's going to turn into something contagious. Even if you had called the mom, she may have decided to send her older child anyway.
