I've posted a few times about how H was considering applying for a job in a completely different industry that would be a temporary pay cut but ultimately a raise and better hours.
He went to the company today and dropped off his resume, name dropped the person he knows who works there, and mentioned that he'd be open to any of the open positions and that he knows it's a big departure from the work experience on his resume but that he's looking for a change. The receptionist gave him the card of the person who does all the hiring, who happens to be the brother of our neighbor (which H knew). The current company where H works also happens to be the company where said hiring manager and neighbor's oldest brother retired from. So hopefully at least the connections will be enough for him to get a call back from the hiring manager. (BTW, the way that all of this works in the blue collar industry is SO different than the kind of job searching I would do.)
Anyway, he wants to know how long he should wait to call to follow up. A few days? A week? More?
As he talked to the receptionist and she gave him the card of the person who did the hiring, i'd actually send an email in the next day or so just saying something to the effect of "I stopped by and dropped of my resume. As I told the receptionist .... (blah blah blah)" and then I'd also attach a copy of his resume again.
