One of the things that came out of our fight was that we both need a mini-vacation, together, so I was going to look for a trip this week. Then we got an invitation to his cousin's wife's (both of whom we adore and are fun as shit) 50th birthday party. It's being held at a real live ranch outside of San Antonio on the Saturday.
I was able to use miles and I plan to use points for hotel.
What's fun to see besides the Riverwalk and the Alamo?
Nigel has not ever been to the Southwest, this is going to be a neat experience for him.
Mission San Jose is worth a visit, especially since it's Nigel's first trip to the Southwest. Gruene Hall is a little outside of town, but fun. They usually have live music all day and night on the weekends.
There's a rotating restaurant at the top of some building Ghost tours at night! A little outside of town are caverns Waterpark Outlet malls in San Marcos

Are you renting a car? If so, I would definitely suggest a drive around the Hill Country. Luckenbach, Johnson City, Kerrville, and Fredericksburg are all cool little towns. Fredericksburg has nice wineries and Enchanted Rock, which is a fun/easy hike and really pretty.
As far as IN San Antonio, I really like the old historic areas, driving around looking at houses, the Quarry. Sea World/Fiesta Texas can also be fun.

I agree with all the suggestions above. There's also a cool rodeo just outside of town called Tejas Rodeo- it's every weekend, and covered, though not enclosed. And I have yet to eat bad food at any resturaunt, and ditto the margaritas!

I was there a looooong time ago, back when more companies used to have big sales/awards/incentive meetings for executives and salespeople. It was super fun, and I did see the Alamo and I remember it being really cool. Mostly everything else is in a wild blur of fun and alcohol... I think we went to Polly Esther's to go dancing one night. And I love margaritas with all my heart.
Thanks for the suggestions!!
We will need to rent a car to get to the party, I think, so maybe we will keep it for Sunday and tool around a little bit.
We get in Thursday night, late, so that leaves Friday to do the Alamo and Riverwalk and maybe the mercado.
Unfortunately the only available direct flight leaves at 08:10 on Monday, so we won't be doing any more sightseeing than that.

We've been there 4 times in the past year. Fiesta, Sea World, Market Square, La Villita is really neat if you like little boutique stores. The Alamo is something everyone should se once. There is a Ripley's Believe it or Not museum across the street and a wax museum, 3D ride place, and a mirror maze that are fun across from the Alamo. Check out the Esquire Tavern on the Riverwalk. It is up on the 2nd floor. We always go there to have a couple beers. if you are willing to make a side trip, definitely check our Gruene, TX and and have lunch at the Grist Mill. It is a really cute little town with tons of little shops.
