H had his interview today and felt like it went really well. There were a few hour-long technical sessions as well as standard interview stuff. His last meeting was with the HR rep who has guided him through the process and she talked to him and gave him information on the benefits package. The group will meet Monday to decide whether to extend him an offer or not and he will hear either Monday or Tuesday.
I'm thinking that they don't go over benefits with someone they don't intend to hire, right? Gah, this is going to be such a long weekend!
I think definitely a good sign! They want to make sure there aren't any showstoppers in the benefits that would prevent your DH from making a decision.

Absolutely a good sign. They're obviously serious about him. I wouldn't necessarily assume he was in for sure, but definitely one of the final candidates.
The part about not assuming he is in - we go over our benefits with candidates who are promising for the job they applied for as well as if they might be a fit in the future for something else. That way we hook them on wanting to come here. We have outstanding benefits.

Thanks ladies! Apparently this is an "always looking to grow" position, not a vacancy, so he is not up against someone else currently. They're looking to grow the division over the next few years!
And OMG, I need him to get it for the benefits alone! They're amazing!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, but as someone who has worked in higher ed and just went through the interview process last year, it doesn't necessarily mean an offer is forthcoming. I was a finalist but did not get a job at two different universities within the last 12 months. Both times I met with the HR person at the end to go over all the benefits etc.
However, my fingers and toes are crossed for your H! Best of luck, I am so hopeful for you and your family.

I wonder if this is common in higher ed. We always have candidates meet with HR to discuss benefits, too, no matter what.

At a third university where I worked, we also had all candidates meet with HR to discuss benefits, too.

Thanks! This job is not in academia as he has decided to leave academia.

Oh i'm so sorry, I didn't realize he was leaving academia. Best of luck to him in his new adventure! Disregard my post.

No problem and thanks! He's somewhat sad about it, but came to realize that we couldn't wait for stability in it after he yet again didn't get a tenure track offer this year.
