While mountain biking (on trail) with my husband. A big one. It didn't hang around long enough for me to think of getting my camera out so I have no proof.
I did briefly wonder if it killed and ate us who would find us at fault for our deaths. We were not carrying bear spray or any weapons.
So scary! We were hiking once and heard what had to have been a bear right next to the trail, in very thick shrub. Luckily it lumbered down the hill away from us. We pretty much ran back to our kayak.

You're not supposed to run from bears...that's how someone would have blamed you for your death. Glad you were safe, though!

Did it freak you out??
When we were in Alaska last year, our friend kept calling for bears because she wanted us to see one. I was relieved we didn't.

You know, I wasn't really scared so much as cautious. It helped that he walked away pretty quickly. Both H and I have seen them in the woods before, and around here the rate of human attacks is very low.
I'm way more afraid of mountain lions, honestly, and try hard not to think of the likelihood that they see me pretty frequently.

Crazy!
We were in the Poconos this past week and the newsletter my ILs get (we stay at their lakehouse) talked to about how bears are around the community and to leave them alone. We didn't see any although when DH tossed garbage at the dumpster, he noticed the bears had likely just been there. BIL and SIL were there the week prior and saw three of them. OMG!
A few weeks ago a bear ran onto the road while I was driving. It missed my car but got ran over by the car coming in the opposite direction. Freaked me out a bit.
Aww, poor bear! I wonder how much damage it did to the car? Glad it wasn't you who hit it!

I'm assuming not much because the car didn't stop. It was in between a cub and adult bear so medium sized. It got run over by both driver's side wheels so maybe it didn't really get caught in the undercarriage? It didn't get hit like a deer, more run over like roadkill. Still awful.
