To be thorough, the joke wholly belongs to Julie Klausner who wrote the entire series. Amy is just an executive producer, which means she probably saw it and didn't object

Another Period makes some pedophilia jokes in at least one episode (there's also incest jokes and jokes made about every offensive topic imaginable). It's not just the subject matter, it's that a three year old child was brought into it. For me at least, that's the distinction.

And maybe also that that 3 year old is an actual person, who lives and breathes. That seems very different from generic jokes, which while questionable isn't...I don't know, personal?

I agree. You can make a metajoke about topics being off-limits without talking about an actual real child.
What does this mean? The "joke" was disgusting, don't turn this around on us.
I haven't seen the show, but judging by the title and the description of the scene, it sounds like the person who said it is supposed to be horrible, and the fact that she doesn't understand why that joke was just not funny and way over the line is further proof of her horribleness.

OK, but there has to be some other terrible joke they could have used, right? There are plenty of offensive and off-limits things to make not-funny jokes about without bringing an actual 3 year old into it.
