Elle, I've seen you say this in other threads, as has my mom, who could scarcely contain her glee. So, you'd rather double-down and hope this is enough to give McCaskill a lead, rather than ensure he gets nowhere near the Senate? Better to risk that senatorial power be given to someone so dangerously wrong?
According to H, the party never wanted him as a candidate and they are taking this as a lucky break to drop him. This was the candidate McCaskill wanted to run against.
Why we live in a country where candidates bankroll their preferred opponents in party primaries, well it's not like anyone seems to desire campaign finance reform on any meaningful level. Nor does our Supreme Court.
I can't speak for the R party, but my fiercely Democratic mom sure did go vote for him at the primary, which would support your theory.

This is totally true. Establishment Rs wanted Brunner. Sarah Palin and the tea party wanted Sarah Steelman. Those two beat each other up, plus McCaskill ran "anti-" Akin ads saying things like "he's a true conservative" and walla--crazy town candidate.
Yes, I'd rather double down. Because I truly think most Republicans are thinking it and not saying it anyway. I'd rather people at least know for whom they are voting.
I've gotten about 15 emails today from the DNC asking me to donate. That haven't been this galvanized since Obama announced support for gay marriage.
I truly think most Republicans are thinking it and not saying it anyway.
"Most?" So most of the 29% of Americans who identify as Republicans think pregnant rape victims are a bunch of lying liars? I'd be rendered dysfunctional with rage if I sincerely believed something so heinous of so many people.
McCaskill was running ads FOR him showing all the reasons why he is the "true conservative" during the weeks leading up to the primary, she definitely wanted to run against him. Sarah Palin threw her support behind the other R candidate, I forget her name now even though I saw the add 1 million times during the olympics.
I truly think most Republicans are thinking it and not saying it anyway.

Well, a bill redefining rape did work it's way pretty far through the house. And the Republican VP candidate endorsed it. So it is hardly a fringe position.
As I understand it, no one knows how to reach this guy. Normally people have some kind of mentor in politics--someone who could call this guy up and make it clear that there no path to becoming a Senator in 2012 for him, but that he could still maybe have a career later if he falls on the sword now. But this guy has no mentor figure. No one knows how to get to him. His campaign managers and advisors are like all family at this point.
I don't, but I also don't trust my fellow Missourians.
Ha haha! Me either. Like seriously. I think he could come out and say "and Hitler was really cool" and the morons from my state would still vote for him over Claire. Can you tell I really hate where I live? I'm like a piece of blue glitter that accidentally fell in the red glitter jar. LOL
Racegrrl, which area of MO are you in? I'm in STL and I have plenty of friends who would disown me if they realized I don't vote a straight Dem ticket like them.
And of all my close friends who ARE right-leaning, they are all the socially liberal sort (pro gay marriage, pro-choice, etc).
I've learned to just smile and nod, and keep my friends on both sides of the aisle. Well, except for the lone chick fila lover in my FB feed. I was rather blunt in my assessment of his priorities.
