H has been no help in planning our trip and puts everything off to the last minute. We're T-3 weeks and don't have a single place to stay booked and only a rough itinerary figured out and I'm having to plod along on it on my own so I'm looking to you all for help!
We're going to be in Paris about 3 days at the beginning of our trip and then 2.5 days at the end of our trip. We'd like to stay in two different arondissements. Besides wanting to be be close to a Metro stop (I have a bum hip right now and can't do TONS of walking) and within the first 20, I'm not sure what I should be looking at. The Latin quarter is traditional and where I've stayed on my previous visits, but we wouldn't mind hitting up somewhere different, I'm just not sure where to start.
I'll probably be popping back in to this thread as I have new questions so that I don't annoy you with a million threads.
I've stayed in the 1st and the 3rd and both times found it to be quite convenient. Very walkable, but also very close to Metro stops. Both were apartments found on HomeAway. The one in the 1st is booked through fall, otherwise I'd recommend it and the one in the 3rd is up 5 flights of stairs, no elevator, so that wouldn't be good for you.
Is this your first trip to Paris? We arranged a tour with Paris Greeters. They are free walks given by locals. Its was awesome. You should make a request on their website now if it interests you. You can specify where your preferences, even that you don't want lots of walking (they have a section for disabled visitors). We wanted a walk through the Montmartre. www.greeters.paris/?lang=en I also recommend a picnic at the Trocadero, overlooking the Eiffel Tower.
You're going at a great time of year. Our first trip to Paris was mid-September and it was beautiful.
I've also really like staying in monmatre (I think that's the 14th), but it might be too hilly for you.
OMG!! This is the exact hotel I stayed at with my Grandparents on my first trip to Europe!! It was a Best Western at the time. Last year I dragged summer and my H to this hotel so I could take a picture. Agreed it's a great location.
