so I went to a transition clinic last weekend and they talked a lot about the whole three bike lengths / no drafting rule and passing people, etc.
But on a short course (8 miles) that I imagine will be fairly crowded (600 entries) especially since I'm in the last wave, how likely is it that this rule is going to be followed?
Not that I'm concerned about drafting or being drafted, but rather, I'm still really jittery on the bike and scared to ride around other people. I have visions of Tour de France type pelatons in my head - tell me it's not going to be like that please.
I was nervous about this in my first tri, but it ended up being no big deal. I wasn't as close to others as I thought I would be. Basically, if you're going to pass someone, just do it quickly.
All you have to do is make sure you aren't sitting on someone's wheel. If you come up behind someone, be sure to pass them. If someone passes you, let them go by. If you want to pass them back, do it after they've passed you, otherwise you're blocking.
You'll be fine. There will not be any peletons in a triathlon like that!
