We're coming up on fastpass time and I asked DS (5) what he wanted to do at Disney and he said he wanted to meet Lightning McQueen, Mater, etc.
We're staying at Art of Imagination (whoops wrong name lol) Animation in a Cars suite so we will have that experience. But a quick browse on the website didn't pull up any Cars rides or attraction. Am I missing something?
What other rides would a 5-year old boy or a 2-year old girl enjoy? Not sure if he cares about meeting other characters so we may just be fine with doing the character breakfasts and save fast passes for rides. DD has no idea who any of these people are and will likely be terrified of the characters.
I'm not sure on rides but you will love the AoA Cars suite! It is so cute and clever. We stayed there last year with our then 5 and 3 yo boys and whenever we talk about Disney, they STILL bring up the huge Cars from outside the hotel

The meet and greet for Lightning McQueen and Mater don't have FP+. It's at Hollywood Studios.
For the 5 year old I would try to get FP+ for 7 Dwarfs Mine Train, and Peter Pan at Magic Kingdom and probably Buzz. If you rope drop you can hit Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain relatively easily with little wait. You can make different FP+ for your group and use a rider swap for Mine Train with your 2 year old so your 5 year old can ride twice.
My 2 year old loved It's a Small World, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, teacups, carousel, Enchanted Tales with Belle and Journey of the Little Mermaid.
Thanks!! This is very helpful. I see both of these and will definitely add them to the to do list. DS would love the stunt show, so we might use a Fast pass for that. Anybody have experience with it? Do we need it?

The meet and greet at Hollywood Studios is just a statute of LM and Mater. They aren't actual characters.
We went last year when DS1 and DD were 4 years old. DS loved Toy Story Midway Mania, the Buzz ride, and Turtle Talk with Crush. Get the FP for Crush. It is so awesome, but really popular.
Dumbo is awesome for little ones. And, they had a blast at the splash area near Dumbo.
ETA: If we went this year, we'd definitely do Jedi Academy. DS1 was a bit young for it last year and not as into Star Wars.

DD1 is 5 and DD2 is 2, and we went earlier this year. We blew most of our FP's on character meets, but as far as rides go, my 5 year old loved Soarin, Peter Pan's Flight, Aladdin's magic carpet ride, Dumbo, and the carousel. My 2 year old was pretty scared of most rides but she did love It's a Small World and the train that goes around MK.
We also stayed at AoA and really liked it! Have fun!
The only thing my 5yo didn't like at WDW this summer was Space Mountain. (His shy, timid big sister loved it at 5, which is why he rode it at all). Oh, and Dinosaurs at AK scared him too. All the rest was great. Soarin and Splash Mountain are the 2 he talks about the most though.
My 2yo's favorites were dumbo, triceratops at AK (which is exactly like dumbo), and the people mover thing in tomorrowland.
There's a lot of car statues at AoA, so I wouldn't go to HS for that. (Actually, I pretty much hate HS for little kids, a half day was plenty for me).
We did some character meals, but no meet and greets, my kids just aren't into it. Save the FPs for the rides!
If I remember correctly, lighting McQueen makes an appearance in the lights, motors, action show.
Ditto. We really enjoyed this show, particularly DS. I remember it being too loud for our youngest but she can't stand fireworks or thunder either (she was 3 at the time we went). We have not been back so I don't know if they have changed anything.
