Anyone else tried this? It's not bad, I just learned how to make a zucchini noodle lasagna, and it's pretty good. I just never really thought of doing that before, I guess. I won't do this every week, probably a few times a year. But fresh home cooked food with minimal thinking is awesome.
LMK if anyone wants a discount code for your first order. If you want to try.
I have done it a fair amount. It's a lot of money for what you get. The meals are mostly yummy (we've had a few duds).
The last several boxes (6-8?) have all had something wrong with them -- spoiled, missing, or wrong quantities of ingredients, or have been sent to our old address after we clearly specified a change of address. Their customer service is good, and they have always refunded for the affected meals. But it's a bummer to get spoiled ingredients.
Eta: we keep the recipe cards for the meals we like, and have remade several from grocery store ingredients. You can also get a lot of free recipes on the app or website.
Yes, I really like it but only do it if they have a discount code. We have enjoyed all the meals and it's great for when I don't have time to plan and shop but do have time to cook.
No leftovers, unless you maybe did the family sized ones then you might.
Boo. I take leftover dinners for lunch the next day, so this probably wouldn't work out for me. Too bad because man does it sound convenient! I've been to the grocery store twice this week already!
We get leftovers on one of three meals usually. We've been doing a box a month. I only had an issue once, and they refunded me $5 for the spoiled onion. About half the recipes have been keepers for us (and made again)
This is what I'm trying to get H to agree to. Once a month or so boxes, save the recipes we like to make again.
We have found that MOST meals that are designed for two people will actually yield two good-sized dinner portions and a smaller lunch portion (or two adult portions and a child portion). If it's something like a sandwich or pita or fajitas or something, they only provide the bread for two servings, so to get a third you may need to supplement with your own tortilla/roll/pita/whatever. You may have to cut pieces of meat into the number of portions you want. Otherwise, it's PLENTY of food. Some meals even are even enough for 3-4 full-sized portions. Obviously it depends on how much you eat.

I didn't think it provided enough food for leftovers but my H and I eat bigger dinners. For example, they gave us 8 oz of beef for meatballs. That's not going to go to 3 meals for us.

Iwill say that the lasagna I made would easily feed 3.
I used a discount code for my first box, which was apparently stolen from my front door. Their customer service wasn't that great with regard to trying to track the package. They did end up giving me a credit for another box, so we'll see what happens next week.

Sorry, you are right, they don't do refunds, but they do offer you a credit on your next box.
It is more expensive than meal planning, but honestly in my house the alternative would be going out. So it's definitely cheaper than going out!
We are proud when we make 3 meals a week at home. Our best friends also get Hello Fresh so we often combine and cook together and drink with them for a night in.
I'm on my second week of HF and I really like it. The boxes have ingredients I wouldn't normally use so it's definitely expanding my pallet, which is good. I think it gives two generous portions per meal- I never feel short changed in that regard.

I've tried Hello Fresh, Blue Apron and Home Chef. They're really all the same concept, and I LOVE it. I try recipes I otherwise would have never picked, and I end up liking most of them. I've done one of the three boxes every week since I first signed up a couple months ago. I hate meal planning but don't mind cooking, so it's perfect. I love the format of the recipes - they walk you through making an entire meal, not just one dish.
The portions are small. They're plenty for me, but my H complains. Definitely no leftovers.
Of the three, Home Chef is by far my favorite. You have I believe 9 meals to choose from, whereas the others only have 5. Hello Fresh is my 2nd favorite. I don't really care for Blue Apron - often their meal choices don't appeal to me, and they'll only let you choose certain combinations of the 5 meals, so I always end up with something I'm not excited about.

Awesome! I hadn't heard of this one, but I have done Blue Apron in the past as well

Do you have a referral link for Home Chef? The meals look great! I like Hello Fresh but don't care for the upcoming meals. I have a discount code for Blue Apron but can only find 2 meals that are appealing each week and the other meals are not appealing AT ALL.
I do really like how Hello Fresh packages the meals. It makes it easy to unpack and store. I think Plated uses bag instead of boxes and I didn't like that as much.
For us, it depends. I made a chicken and bulgar paella last week that had leftovers, mostly because I'm fine with just 1 chicken thigh. Most of the ones that include grain or pasta are pretty generous in size, though the meat portion is a proper meat portion for 2 servings. Depending on what it is, that can be a problem if you want leftovers. I wouldn't count on it for leftovers. It is more than enough for both of us plus our 3-year-old, though.
PM me your email addresses. I do have a referral link, but I only have one free box to gift. I'll get that to redheadk, since she was the first one to ask. I'm honestly not sure if my referral link offers a discount or not! I can send it and then you can check it out. I also believe you can get $30 off a box using coupon codes - I see them pop up on facebook periodically.

I agree with that. Blue Apron and Home Chef both use bags, and I prefer the boxes from Hello Fresh. I also like the little containers of condiments and such that they send. They're so cute!

Question about Hello Fresh. I just received my first delivery. I used a coupon code and paid $35 for 3 meals. Not sure if that's a great deal or not?? Anyway, it was supposed to arrive Thursday but for some reason UPS delayed it until Friday. UPS comes late to my house, the package arrived at 6:45pm. Too late for me to use for dinner (which is what I had planned.) We have dinner plans tonight and Sunday night. So should I pop the meat in the freezer and pull out for M,T, and W? I'm slightly annoyed at the delivery dates offered but I knew what it was going into it.
If anyone is looking for a referral code, here is mine. It says you'l get $40 off your first box. GFFUY5

Yeah, my blue apron delivery won't be until a Thursday and I see that as problematic. I'd but the meet in the freezer and pull it out the morning you plan to cook it.

I would freeze it. This happened to me once with Hello Fresh, too. But in my case the box was damaged and the ice packs had broken and leaked through, so all the meat was ruined (along with most of the fresh ingredients). They ended up just crediting me the cost of the box that week, but I had to scramble to figure out dinner.
