DS's sleep has been horrible this week. He's gone from 2-3 wake ups to at least 3 or more. He just slept half an hour before waking up crying again. I feel bad for thinking that I wish he was older so I could sleep train him.

That was what git me through the first few months knowing that I could eventually ST.
DS2 moved his 4:30 wake up to 4:00. After getting up at least three times last night. I feel like this would all be more survivable if I knew how much longer it would last, a month, six months?
He was was doing so much better. He even slept til 6:22 on Wednesday! Unfortunately he was up at quarter to five today and wouldn't go back down. I'm still not taking him out of his crib until 5:30 so it was a long 45 minutes of shushing, singing, and crying. No fun!
Just got DD back after they took her to the nursery for a couple hours. I was out cold for the entire time they had her. Two and a half hours of sleep in a row feels amazing!
She's lost a decent chunk of weight though. Just hoping my milk comes in quickly and she can feel full soon. She was so fussy earlier!
starburst, I have been thinking the same thing lately. What is the appropriate age? I have no idea. Dd turned 4 mo yesterday.
I just had a tickle in my throat and coughed, dd pulled away and gave me this confused with attitude stare, like she's saying What makes you think it's ok to interrupt me? Lol.
And I'm back for wake up #4 or 5. I've lost count. And this time he's up for good. Once upon a time he slept until 8 or later. That has somehow turned into 6:00.
farmvillelover - He's two months old. And I really feel like an asshole because he's obviously uncomfortable. He keeps grunting and squirming. So on one hand I feel bad because he's this helpless little thing who has digestive issues, but on the other hand, I'm so damn tired.
And seeing people in this thread with older babies is making me really worried for what the future holds!

I think you're supposed to wait until around 6 months.

Same thing here. Except I laid in my bed and tried to ignore DD until 530. She's only sleeping 9 hours a night now. Hugs to you and coffee shots!

Actually you can try sleep training around 3 or 4 months, all the child needs is to have developed the ability to self-soothe. I remember with DD we did some sleep training around 3 months after she showed us (accidentally) that she could fall asleep for a nap on her own after crying for a few minutes. I've been re-reading parts of the Ferber book for reminders on how this works, and I'm reminded that at this age it's mostly about sleep associations. So this is where putting them down "drowsy but awake" is helpful, since then they get practice putting themselves to sleep instead of being unable to fall asleep unless they're nursing or being rocked, etc. Ferber's progressive waiting approach is designed to help the kid fall asleep on their own - crying is simply a common side-effect.
