Yep, same as londoncalling here. DH would take that as an opportunity to buy the Sam's Club size box of pizza rolls, bagel bites and Doritos. And some frozen pizzas. And probably a Costco cake.
My husband would have called me fifty times from the store and still come home with @this 's husband's beef jerky & pickles.
He did call me too! To ask "did you want a cake or cupcakes, because ds1 found birthday cupcakes with sprinkles"
I was like "oooh, cupcakes are a great idea", you know, picturing a dozen normal cupcakes. He's justifying it because it's just a drop-in, casual, 2pm thing and people can just have a (mini!) cupcake and a glass of milk.
I just want to defend husbands and say mine would have plenty of food and a plan of what to do with it whereas I would have come back with a bounce house, a tub of jelly beans and plans to make a party mix of songs. I have planning ADD.

When it comes to junk food, my H would actually do very well and probably come back with like 2 cakes, a gallon of ice cream and 5 huge bags of gummy bears. Actually, that is what he would come home with in general if I asked him to grocery shop.

While my DH would be the one to ALSO come home w/ a bounce house, he would also do a better job of me in the food department. He's very good at entertaining and planning for parties.

This is mine too- Oreos, a billion bags of chips, probably 4 12-packs of various sodas, hot dogs & buns (though they are all already in the freezer), 3 dozen bakery cupcakes, 3 gallons of ice cream.... No fruits or vegetables though. Lol.

Yes, this. Even if I sent him with a DETAILED list (which is the only way I would ever let him be in charge of shopping), he would still call me 85 times.
"Do you want extra crunchy or regular pickles? What aisle is the beef jerky on??"

My husband would probably buy a bag or two of chips. Several $7.50 each 4 pack bottles of root beer and steak for everyone. Meanwhile I'd have couponed and made the decorations by hand to save money.
My H would have come home with a mountain of fruit. It's his favorite thing ever and he loves serving it to people. Then he probably would have come up with some elaborate meal that would be way too hard to execute for a group. He always acts like it's odd that my family celebrates every birthday with birthday cake, so there would have been no dessert bought. He'd probably ask me to make a flan or something.
I'd be the one coming home with Totinos and cupcakes lol.

My H would have never even left the house without knowing what I wanted. Also if he did somehow make it to the store without a list, he would most definitely call 13,000 times while there. It's not worth it to send him.

At least the people wouldn't starve! Lol
So true! Now that I think about it, he actually wouldn't do badly in terms of having enough food. There would be a ton. He would use it as the perfect reason to buy all of his favorite junk foods. And soda. The man is obsessed with soda. We don't keep it in the house, so I"m sure at least 3-4 12 packs would show up. For 8 people
I got more information out of him, apparently he failed to tell me that 3 people cancelled last minute so it's just us and his grandparents. Still, those cupcakes are too small to hold the #1 candle I bought :s
He's off to town to buy normal sized cupcakes and some specific finger foods.

There is nothing wrong with flan. And now I want some.
