DS is 2 months old and is super gassy and fussy. He just seems so uncomfortable all the time. He is always squirming, grunting, and writhing around. His arms and legs are constantly flailing and kicking. He is never relaxed unless he is sleeping in my arms. And there's been mucous in his poop and he's always congested. The pediatrician suggested I eliminate dairy from my diet, so I cut out obvious dairy, but now I'm thinking I should cut hidden dairy and soy.
My questions:
Did you also cut soybean/vegetable oil and soy lecithin?
Would you eat something that doesn't contain dairy or soy, but is made in a facility that handles both?
I didn't cut dairy but DD has a dairy allergy. If the product just says processed in a facility that also processes dairy we give it to her. It could be on the other side of the facility but due to laws they have to state that.
Also, smart balance has dairy free butter that's really good.

Did you also cut soybean/vegetable oil and soy lecithin? I did for the first 6 months. That part sucked the most b/c I was so limited. Soy Lecithin is in everything.
Would you eat something that doesn't contain dairy or soy, but is made in a facility that handles both? I did b/c I figured that I wasn't feeding it to him and that I didn't think he could be that sensitive. I was honestly so limited that it wasn't that big of an issue though.
How long did it take to see changes in your LO? A month or so but there were unintentional slip-ups. We had blood in his stool though so we would have days/weeks of good diapers and then bam.
Any tips or suggestions of things to eat? I would start with dairy and then hidden dairy and save soy if you don't seen an improvement. Enjoy Life cookies. They are expensive but so good. I started getting them through Amazon. Avacodao to help replace cheese. Chex Gluten Free Oatmeal were my go-to's. I also ate a lot of Wendys b/c there menu was pretty dairy and soy free. We got a Chipolte midway though and that helped.
I did all dairy but not facilities. Honestly soy is so hard so I would get really strict with dairy first. (Including whey and casein) Have you checked for a lip/tongue tie?

I would try hidden dairy first, then move on to soy (including lecithin but excluding soybean oil), and finally eliminate soybean/vegetable oil if you have to.
I've eliminated both when I was tracking down my own food intolerances. Soy lecithin is hard to avoid but not impossible, and it's definitely an allergen for some. Soybean oil is less of an allergen because it's highly processed so almost no soy protein remains and if you avoid it you almost can't eat out at all.
We only had a milk issue, so I eliminated all dairy (but paid no attention to the facility thing).
Eczema, fussiness, apparent tummy trouble went away almost instantly. Mucousy poops took a looooong time to change, though.
This post helps me a lot. DD still is having mucus in her poop but everything else cleared up. I'm hoping it's just milk and not also soy. I'll give it more time.

I initially cut all off, but added in some to see what was ok. We've been ok with oil and lecithin but when he eats it soy lecithin is less ok but not horrible.
I noticed an improvement in his skin pretty fast. Within a few days.
I cut dairy and soy, and she improved so much that I didn't think I really had to cut lecithin and a little bit of baked in dairy. Turns out I didn't really know what a normal poo looked like, so at 10 months I really buckled down with some last hidden sources and now (15 months) she's doing great and staying away from everything.

Did you also cut soybean/vegetable oil and soy lecithin? With DD, I had to cut all dairy and soy, including soy lecithin and soybean oil. With DS, I can do soybean oil and lecithin, but I've continued to avoid other sources of soy. He's still got some issues that may or may not be food-related (eczema and reflux), so I'll be doing TED to see if we can figure out what's going on.
Would you eat something that doesn't contain dairy or soy, but is made in a facility that handles both? Yes, I did.
How long did it take to see changes in your LO? I saw an improvement in disposition within days. DD's reflux improved right away and was gone within a couple of weeks (this was her biggest symptom - if I slipped up, it returned immediately). Diapers took longer.
Any tips or suggestions of things to eat? Coconut aminos are a decent soy sauce substitute if you have to cut soy. It's not exactly the same, but it works. Weelicious has a dairy-free section of their website; we use it a lot. It gets easier eventually, and for the most part, my cravings went away after a few months (though I was always pissed when work ordered pizza). I also discovered that I feel SO much better when I don't eat dairy. I did reintroduce it after I could eat it again, mostly so I didn't have to make myself a separate meal when DD and DH were eating pizza or mac and cheese or whatever, but I really minimized my use of it because I noticed a definite increase in sluggishness (for lack of a better term) whenever I ate it in more than just tiny quantities.
I cut hidden dairy/soy and I didn't eat anything that had been processed with those either. I noticed some changes immediately and other changes after the dairy/soy were totally out of my system. If I ate some "contaminated" she had a reaction really soon after, so I was really careful. I made a cheat sheet for a friend. Let me see if I can find it and post it. I did lose all the baby weight and about 15 pounds in addition to that really quickly though because of it.
