I don't really want a huge bday for dd2. just some friends of ours and a little family. We moved into our house 2m ago and some haven't seen it. I was hoping to do a house warming and bday together thing but don't really want gifts. I do not need 1 more toy. How would you do this on the invite or what would you send? I would be ok with Books bc I know not everyone listens to the no gift thing.
Would probably be a Saturday after noon with a picnic menu, hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, fruit, cake. Oohhh, maybe an eric carle theme?
If it's people you're related to or hang out with on the regular I wouldn't put "no gifts" on the invite. When you see them I'd just say in the most polite of terms "We have enough sh*t! Books would be great though as she's really getting into them!"
I have no issue doing that with close people. We all sort of do it and understand each other.
And no matter how bold you put it on the invite...someone will bring something. People always do.
We just received a birthday invite to a first birthday party/end of summer BBQ. They just asked people to bring their favorite side dish and they would prepare the rest. Could you do that?
As for the gift thing could you say 'help the girls build a library in our new house!' ? It's hard to do that without sounding grabby though. I'm right there with you- do not bring any more toys but I will always welcome a book!
